House Republicans shift blame to Democrats

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Republicans fired back at incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, who accused the GOP Thursday of leaving "a mess as they go out."

"House Democrats have spent every waking moment of the past Congress obstructing any effort towards progress," said Kevin Madden, spokesman for House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. "They have tried to blow up the tracks on immigration reform, tax relief, earmark reform, you name it.

Madden added, "And now in the last few days of this Congress where they have a chance to help make progress, they decide instead to abdicate their responsibilities and play the blame game. Just goes to show they're a party of zero ideas and zero action."

Madden was responding to remarks Pelosi and other Democrats made at a news conference regarding the Iraq war and unfinished legislative work.

3. It would have helped if repukes worked more than 100 days a year
Geez, I wish I had a job where I only had to work 100 days a year and got paid $200k

16. Quick ... find another Terri Schiavo
so the Repukes can fly in and do some work on one of the days that they would normally spend with their families ...

Oh, and make sure it's not a welfare minority ... Bush's legislation in Texas prohibits saving poor kids (minority status optional) whose parents can't afford the lifesaving measures to keep them alive ...

8. The poor babies!
Those mean old Democrats stopped the hapless and helpless Republican majority from making progress! They were trying their hardest (2 days per week) to destroy our constitution, but the Dems kept obstructing them!

Pathetic whiners!

people want even more obstruction of Republican "progress". So STFU, idiots.

10. The Republican party as the majority changed the rules
to make the minority party nearly invisible. The Dems could not propose legislation; they were not invited to conference committee meetings, and much more. So everything that went wrong with this Congress (actually all of it since 1994) is the fault of the Republicans.

12. How can Democrats be blamed for the actions of the past Congress?!
Republicans controlled both the House and Senate; Democrats couldn't do much except complain and hold hearings in the basement. Nice try, Madden.

18. Laughable. The jackboot brownshirt lockstep republican
majority that barely let Democrats open their mouths during the past 6 years of the republican Congressional "reign of terror" is blaming their own failure on the formerly powerless minority party.

How utterly republican is that?

20. Wait!! Weren't the thugs in the majority? And doesn't a majority
trump a minority in regards to numbers of votes?

Seems to me that the thugs weren't all that interested in getting anything done but trashing the treasury and playing hooky from work.

Hand them their asses... they're done.

21. This ain't the senate, Mr. Madden
No filibusters in the house. The way Rep. Delay ran the place, the Dems were basically cut out of the legislative process entirely.

I wonder, will Americans be stupid enough to fall for this bullshit?

24. Immigration reform???
The Repubs themselves couldn't even agree on a path for that. They practically split their party just talking about it. They didn't need any Dems to fail to make progress on that.
Tax relief??? What tax "relief" didn't they get? Are they kidding?
Earmark reform??? Is that anything like Abramoff pimping casinos or sweatshops?

Those guys are certifiably insane.

25. Exactly ....
MORE lies and other assorted bullshit ...

The GOP were split on Immigration; and the Dems simply demurred ....

The party in power holds the key to introducing and passing ANY legislation .... They didnt/couldnt/wouldnt/wont let it happen ....

I guess the best they can do is spew as many lies as possible, and hope some of them stick ....

27. Who had the majority for the last 12 years?
Who controlled all of the committees in the House? Who set the agenda? Who let the vote stay open until the Republican medicare bill passed? Who has been found negligent in the Mark Foley case? Who was responsible for stripping amendments out when the joint resolutions were discussed? Who was being bought off by Abramhoff? Who supported the Iraq war and called others unpatriotic? Who put thier purple fingers in the air during the State of the Union address? Who was responsible for putting more Americans into poverty? Who abandoned the people of New Orleans? Who voted to give big oil big tax breaks? Who called a special session of congress to interfere with the Schivo family? Who voted to change the rules that allowed Tom Delay to keep his position as Majority leader? Who outed Valerie Plame Wilson? Who appointed the head of FERC and refused to investigate ENRON, Ken Lay and his fellow conspirators? Who cherry picked intelligence regarding Iraq and WMD's? Who gave tax breaks to the wealthy while opposing minimum wage increases? Who raised the debt ceiling 5 times in the last 5 years? Who has watched over the American people as they loose their health care insurance? Who allowed the credit card companies to practice business with reckless abandon and hold the consumer responsible? Who pushes deregulation and still can't figure out why parts of the midwest still don't have power 1 week after an ice storm? Who cut the heating oil credit to the poor? Who...?

Madame Speaker elect minimized what you people have done to America when she said you left "a mess as they go out"
