Unemployment rate ticks up to 4.5%
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/us-adds-132000-nonfarm-jobs/story.aspx?guid=%7B08481B8C%2DDCD4%2D4FC5%2D9871%2DD9AA9F582525%7D

Hiring in the U.S. continued at a steady, strong pace in November, easing worries that the economy is weakening precipitously.

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 132,000 in November, based on a survey of business establishments, the Labor Department reported Friday.

The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.5% from 4.4% in October, which was a five-year low, according to a separate household survey. Read full government survey.

The gain in payrolls was higher than expected. Economists were forecasting an average gain of 112,000 in November, according to a survey conducted by MarketWatch. See Economic Calendar. The rise in the unemployment rate was in line with expectations.

Another month BELOW the level needed to maintain equilibrium with the increasing population (~160,000 new jobs are needed each month)

And, this will make 7 of the last 8 months being BELOW that level:

1. "And I Am Marie of Roumania"
to quote Dorothy Parker.

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.

2. Hmm. 132K in November?
Just sounds like seasonal holiday hiring to me.

6. Target and Wal Mart probably don't hire for the holiday season
but a number of outfits still do. Here in Maine, L.L. Bean hires a few hundred people from October to the first few weeks of January. Even if you're a seasonal hire at Bean, it's still a nice place to work. I will say at the local mall things seem kind of lackluster. Many people but they don't seem to be shopping themselves into oblivion.

Holiday hires usually don't work the sales floors anyway they're usually on night shifts doing stocking activities, or in distribution and order filling warehouses.

Still, I would stick to my comment that this 132K in new hires is still extra holiday help and not much else.

4. Kind of looks to me like people jumping from lousy job to lousy job
every "jump" is a "new hire" when he/she's replaced, but was a job "created"...or just refilled over and over?
