Ahmadinejad: Iran expands uranium enrichment program

The Associated Press
Published: December 9, 2006

TEHRAN, Iran: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that his country
expanded its contentious uranium enrichment program at a plant in central Iran,
a semi-official news agency reported.

"We have started installing 3,000 centrifuges," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying
by the Fars news agency.

"This is the first step toward industrial production. We will be able to produce
our nuclear fuel once we install 60,000 centrifuges," he said, speaking to a group
of students in the Iranian capital.

Ahmadinejad boasted last month that Iran would soon celebrate, probably in
February, the completion of its nuclear fuel cycle program — from mining uranium
ore to enriching it.

3. Iran Nukes?
Every report that alleged Iran has nukes has been debunked (naturally only after much fanfare by the right wing). It's a good bet this one will get discredited soon as well.

4. There is nothing to debunk here.
The president of Iran is boasting full nuclear fuel cycle
capability in defiance of the US and the Europe.
While Iran's goals are suspect, nobody is claiming
that Iran has nuclear weapons capability.

5. As you no doubt see from the map of the middle east,
it is extremely obvious that we--and Israel and maybe Britain--are trying to surround and isolate Iran. On one side of Iran, we have invaded and occupied Afghanistan. On another side of Iran, we have invaded and occupied Iraq. We, and Israel, have continually threatened to invade (and presumably occupy) Syria, which is also right there near Iran. Israel pushed into Lebanon in July.

We, and Israel, have threatened to invade Iran so many times that such a headline barely raises an eyebrow nowadays.

We have alliances with numerous other countries in the near region of Iran: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, etc.

Iran is, in short, besieged--or in danger of being besieged.

Picture yourself as an Iranian: wouldn't you want your government to DO SOMETHING?

If they are developing a nuclear weapon, I don't blame them. Israel, which is a stone's throw away, has hundreds of nukes.

It seems that when WE can't be the top dog in the world (or at least on this side of the world), we don't want to play. Everything and everybody in the world must serve US--meaning, of course, our elite (not the rest of us.) I'm plenty sick of our elite; it does not surprise me if persons in other countries are even MORE sick of them.

If Iran gets a nuke, TOUGH SHIT. I didn't see anyone invading Israel when they got their nukes. Ditto for many other nuke-bearing countries.
