Rangel: I Support Giuliani-Kerik Ticket
AP 12/18/06

WASHINGTON - Never say New Yorkers don't have a sense of humor - especially when they can stick it to the other side. A powerful New York Democrat, a mischievous gleam in his eye, is offering an early endorsement in the 2008 presidential race, where the field includes many hometown hopefuls like former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Gov. George Pataki and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"I'm supporting Giuliani for the Republican," Rep. Charles Rangel said Monday, pausing briefly before delivering the punchline.

"Kerik, as well," he added, referring to Giuliani's disgraced former police commissioner Bernard Kerik.

Kerik pleaded guilty earlier this year to misdemeanor charges of taking money from contractors with alleged mob ties, when he was the city's corrections chief. He was also President Bush's choice to head the Department of Homeland Security, but the nomination was scrapped after questions arose about his backround.

Political observers say Giuliani's relationship with Kerik could be a problem if the former mayor goes ahead with a run for president.

1. Rudy's a Republican, though
Any ethical lapses that happened before he officially announces his run for president can be written off as youthful indiscretions.

11. read the article. Rangel was clearly being a smartass by including Kerik, G's more obviously
corrupt flunkie.

This is one of the few times when I can see why sarcasm doesn't work in politics--most people will miss the point, and the press will misrepresent it.

13. I realize it was sarcasm on Rangel's part
Unfortunately, as I said, unless it is current 'caught red-handed' corruption, Rudy (and his spin-meisters) will be able to tell the media that it was a youthful indiscretion.

I mean, when Arnold ran, he basically got away with all the sex abuse & harrassment in his past by saying, "I was a bad man."

2. Rudy's been cashing in on 9/11 for five years
and if nominated he would be a straw man. When it came out about his relationship with Kerik, the fact that he was openly cheating on his wife with his current wife while mayor. Then the fundies would be really upset about his support for gay rights/abortion rights.

6. What to do in a serious crisis:
Go down there. Act calm. Be seen. Say "we gotta do something about this".

The advantage of serious crisis is the lack of ambiguity. Of course, Chimpy hid out for a few days first.

9. Maybe Kerik's ex-mistress Judith Regan will sign on
as press secretary, now that she got booted from her job over her loathsome OJ Simpson book project. On second thought, she may still be mad that Bernie was two-timing her with yet another mistress:

KERIK!!!

Fox News has been trying to bleed him back into a spokesman role. Seriously he has been on Hannity & Colmes several times.

14. As was "distinguished journalist"
Jeff Gannon. Really. That's how Sean Hannity referred to "Jeff Gannon". Fake name. Fake resume. Fake Marine. And beloved of all the Bushies.
Would LOVE for Jeffie to write his tell-all book.
