Costs for Iraq war approach record - U.S. official

WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) - U.S. costs for the Iraq war are likely
to exceed $110 billion this year, approaching the record reached in the
fiscal year that just ended, White House budget director Rob Portman
told reporters on Tuesday.

Portman also predicted that strong revenue growth would help bring down
the overall U.S. budget deficit, offsetting some of the war costs.

Asked if he thought the deficit for fiscal year 2007 would come in below
the forecast of $339 billion the White House gave a few months ago,
Portman replied, "Yes, I do."

1. This cannot possibly be accurate ...
Paul Wolfowitz assured us that "this war would pay for itself".

He wouldn't lie, would he?

2. And we all know that the deficit is much, much higher than what the government
has reported.

Meanwhile, American lives aren't as valuable as Iraqi lives, because we keep dying over there and taxpayers are paying for that priviledge. And right here on our own streets, are homeless people, and millions who don't have and can't afford healthcare.

Americans are second class according to our government, actions speak louder than words.

8. No, you have it wrong.
> American lives aren't as valuable as Iraqi lives, because we keep
> dying over there and taxpayers are paying for that priviledge.

A few thousand Americans have died over there and your taxes have paid
for their wasted lives, their funerals and their dependents.
Several hundred thousand Iraqis have died over there but the only
taxpayer contribution has been for the weapons & ammunition used.
So, Iraqis don't count but Americans matter if they die over there yet ...

> And right here on our own streets, are homeless people, and millions
> who don't have and can't afford healthcare.

The difference is that these are not rich people.
Americans in America who are not rich obviously don't count.
Poor Americans in Iraq are rich by local terms so they get the "privilege"
of counting while they are over there (but revert to their normal status
if/when they return).

It's not "Americans" who are second class according to the government,
it is "the poor".

7. Just start calling it the Trillion Dollar War.
When all is said and done it'll have cost at least that much.
