Documentary says French troops had bin Laden in sights
A documentary says French special forces had Osama bin Laden in their sights twice about three years ago but their U.S. superiors never ordered them to fire.

The French military, however, said that the incidents never happened and the report was "erroneous information".

The documentary, due to air next year and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, says the troops could have killed the al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan but the order to shoot never came, possibly because it took too long to request it.

"In 2003 and 2004 we had bin Laden in our sights. The sniper said 'I have bin Laden'," an anonymous French soldier is quoted as saying.

10. Propoganda payback. I'll take it
I think the story is bull but I like that it puts * and his criminal cronies on the defensive after all that crap about Clinton not giving an order to kill Bin Laden in that NBC propaganda movie.

11. If we all recall, the repuke morons were high on anti-French sentiments
at about that time. Regardless of the fact that the French were actively serving in Afghanistan, the last thing moron* and his room full of dopes wanted was to have a French soldier capture or kill OBL.
After all they told moron* to go shit sideways when it cam to Iraq. And you know in morons* world, it's the it's all about ego not about substance.
Plus killing OBL so quickly would have screwed up his* glorious plants to take over the world and we now know how well that went.

Oh, could you please pass the freedom fries? I like mine with less Frenchiness. :sarcasm:

13. yes -- imagine Jacques Chirac himself, dragging a gift-wrapped OBL
... into the White House -- "Pour vous, Monsieur le President" -- Bush, Cheney, and the whole lot of them would have been choking with rage, at being upstaged like that. (If Bush got angry because David Gregory dared to ask a question in French at a press conference in France, I doubt he would be gracious for something like this.)

14. I don't understand all these "we had him but he got away because we didn't have permission to shoot"
...stories. Permission? To kill someone on the FBI's "Top 10" list?

OK, then at least tazer him. We know that'll do it and you don't need permission to do so!
