IMHO, Fieger's got a legitimate bitch with some of Michigan's Supreme Court justices.

Justices lose one to Fieger

Federal appeals court gives him chance to prove bias

December 27, 2006

Southfield lawyer Geoffrey Fieger scored a point in his feud with the state Supreme Court on Tuesday when a federal court ruled he can continue his efforts to disqualify certain justices he claims are biased against him from hearing his cases.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati said Fieger can challenge Michigan's rules for determining when a justice should be disqualified from hearing cases -- rules he has called unconstitutional. He has said his motions to have justices removed from cases were never heard by an impartial arbiter but instead decided by the justices themselves.

Tuesday's decision involves Fieger's attempt to get four state Supreme Court justices to recuse -- or disqualify -- themselves from hearing two appeals involving his clients.

Fieger has publicly criticized the predominantly Republican bench, and has cited campaign statements some justices have made criticizing him.

"They are overtly biased, and have made shocking statements and taken shocking action against me," Fieger said Tuesday.

7. Yep yep yep
he's mouthy and arrogant, but there's no one I would want on my side in a legal fight other than Jeff.

9. As much as I dislike him, you're probably right about that
I also think this decision was the right one.

2. I know a guy who has had cases with Fieger
He hates Fieger. When he gets assigned to a judge he does not like he insults them personally then complains thast the judge is biased. This is BS and unprofessional.

One hears a lot about his big verdicts. One does not hear that these are often overturned on appeal because of his outrageous trial tactics.

He is not good for the profession.

5. Fieger is a clown and a joke
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 12:17 PM by SharonRB
Yeah, he's had some good cases where he's really helped some people, but he calls too much attention to himself and he always becomes the story. Did you know he was an acting major at UofM? He uses his acting skills in court all the time.

He went to my high school, but is a few years younger than me.

8. Having worked in community theater
for many years, I found it is common to have lawyers and judges in the cast. It is not uncommon that they were on the fence in school about choosing between acting and law. Good courtroom lawyers certainly utilize acting skills in their presentations in court.

6. I am not familiar with this fellow, but after witnessing Scalia's
shameful partisan performance regarding his own refusal to recuse himself as regards his relationship with Cheney and others, I am tickled to hear something like this. Good job!

10. What he is doing, how is this different from DeLay?
Tom DeLay wanted a different judge for his case based on their political leaning, how is this different? Just curious.
