Sheehan, Four Other Protesters Arrested
Raw Video: Sheehan, Other Protesters Arrested

(December 28, 2006)—McLennan County sheriff's deputies and Department
of Public Safety troopers arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan
and four other protesters Thursday as President Bush met with top
advisers to discuss Iraq war strategy at his Central Texas ranch.

The five were taken to the Crawford Police Department and a van was
dispatched to transport them to the McLennan County Jail.

Other information about the arrests was not immediately available.

The protesters told a News Ten crew as they were led into the police
department they didn't know why they had been taken into custody.

Sheehan arrived earlier this week in Central Texas and said she was
calling on supporters to join in what she called "an action" Thursday
to coincide with the meeting at the president's ranch.

Top officials including Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates flew into
Central Texas for the meeting.

10. A lot of people are still busy with holiday stuff, relatives, etc.
Don't always assume the worst.

I am sick of people whining whenever a topic doesn't get enough responses fast enough. People do have lives outside of DU for noodles' sakes!

3. Thank you Cindy.
Keep them freaking out. They have to remember the human cost when you are around. Don't let them make the hand cuffs too tight.

4. Iraq War Critic Arrested Near Bush Ranch
Peace activist Cindy Sheehan and four other protesters were arrested Thursday for blocking a road near President Bush's ranch, authorities said, snagging Vice President Dick Cheney's motorcade in a traffic jam.

Sheehan and the others lay or sat in the road about 20 minutes and didn't heed requests to move, Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. R.T. King said.

``They weren't going unless they were arrested,'' King told The Associated Press. He said Cheney's motorcade was among the vehicles delayed by the demonstration.

Sheehan told the Waco Tribune-Herald that she and others were conducting a ``peace surge'' to address concerns that Bush may increase U.S. troop numbers in Iraq. Protesters said they had expected to be arrested.

Sheehan and the others were arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a highway passageway, said a bond clerk at the McLennan County Jail in Waco. She said it was unclear if they would be arraigned Thursday evening. If not, she said, they would have to spend the night in jail.

5. Protesting mom Cindy Sheehan arrested at Bush ranch
Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan was arrested Thursday afternoon outside President Bush's ranch, according to a law enforcement official.

Sheehan, who in the past has camped out for weeks in protest outside the ranch in Crawford, Texas, was arrested for blocking the road leading to the property, Texas Department of Public Safety's Tela Mange told CNN.

Four others were also arrested after law enforcement officials asked the group to move and they refused, Mange said.

" told us if you want us to get out of the road, you're going to have to arrest us," Mange said. "So we did."

The protesters lay in the road about 20 minutes before being taken into custody, she said.

Sheehan and the others were taken to the McLennan County Sheriff's Department, booked and jailed.

Iraq War Critic Arrested Near Bush Ranch

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan and four other protesters were arrested Thursday for blocking a road near President Bush's ranch, authorities said, snagging Vice President Dick Cheney's motorcade in a traffic jam.

Sheehan and the others lay or sat in the road about 20 minutes and didn't heed requests to move, Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. R.T. King said.

A judge sentenced her to conditional discharge. Sheehan's attorney, Robert Gottlieb, said Thursday that meant she will not face any punishment as long as they lead a "law-abiding life" for the next year. "There is nothing to say that what she was arrested for today means that she is not living a law-abiding life," Gottlieb told the AP. "She may in fact be innocent."

8. If we all did what Cindy's doing, the war would be over.
I'm surprised by the lack of protests. Myself included. We are all going about our daily lives. After all, our lives depend on it. But if we all decided to block Bush, all of us at once, it would be over. Ten million in Crawford.

I don't know. I'm tired. And probably wrong. I don't think the level of protestation matches anywhere near the level of violence being perpetrated by the Bush gang.

Cindy is a beacon of hope. I honor her strength.

9. This demonic woman needs to be buried under the jailhouse!
How can she be so disrespectful. All these war protestors should be jailed.

TOTAL SARCASM... These are things I've heard from people I know. My response to them: My mother lost her son in Viet Nam and was against that war.... should she be jailed?

Oh, I love what America has become.

Bless you, Cindy. You are my hero.

13. Multiply the number of protestors by 100,000 and maybe it would
make a difference. I applaud Cindy and her efforts, but it's barely a blip on the back page of the paper with a handful of protesters. That's not Cindy's fault, it's ours.
