Bolivian court orders Cuban dissident deported
Poor baby, whining because he's getting deported after breaking Bolivian law. Typical GUSANO, thinks he's above the law just like the MiamiGUSANOS. As it turns out, Cuba doesn't want him and after Bolivian officials contacting the US, it appears they don't want him either (second article below).

LA PAZ (Reuters) - A Bolivian court ruled on Wednesday that a Cuban dissident who criticized improved relations between Bolivia and Cuba should be deported to the communist country.

"This is a death sentence. Cuba is a country where people who have different points of view, like me, don't have rights," Amauris Samartino told reporters after hearing the verdict.

Samartino, who arrived in Bolivia in 2000, was detained on Saturday on charges he violated a Bolivian law prohibiting immigrants from interfering in the South American country's internal affairs, government officials said.

Earlier this week, state-owned Television Boliviana showed Samartino protesting against the leftist government of President Evo Morales in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, a bastion of the rightist opposition.

Bolivia asks U.S. for deportation help after Cuba rejects dissident

<clips>

LA PAZ, Bolivia: The Bolivian government announced Thursday that Havana will not accept a Cuban dissident set to be deported from Bolivia for criticizing President Evo Morales' close ties to the island nation, and it said the United States must help search for another destination.

...Gamarra said the U.S. should find Sanmartino a new home, and even suggested shipping him back to Guantanamo.

"Those who arranged his entry (into Bolivia) must also arrange to either receive him at Guantanamo or look for a third country," Gamarra said.

Bolivian officials have contacted the U.S. Embassy in La Paz about sending Sanmartino to U.S. territory, but "it looks like they don't want him either," Gamarra added.

U.S. officials confirmed that they were discussing Sanmartino's future with the Bolivian government but declined to comment further on the case.

...The Bolivian government has accused Sanmartino of having ties to a radical separatist movement in Santa Cruz, a center of conservative opposition to Morales.

They also claim Sanmartino helped organize a violent Dec. 15 clash between anti-Morales protesters and the president's backers that injured dozens in the town of San Julian, 115 kilometers (70 miles) northwest of Santa Cruz.

1. How long before he shows up in Miami?
Being a Cuban citizen, as soon as he touches US soil.. ding ding ding.. he can pass go AND collect $200 (as per the US's Cuban Adjusment Act plus all of the perks offered to Cubans only).

LA PAZ, Bolivia -- Havana will not accept a Cuban dissident set to be deported from Bolivia for criticizing President Evo Morales' close ties to the island nation, the government said Thursday.

Interior Vice Minister Ruben Gamarra called on the United States to help find another destination for Amauris Sanmartino because the U.S. helped settle him in Bolivia.

Sanmartino holds permanent residence status in Bolivia but was arrested last weekend under a law forbidding immigrants to be involved in Bolivian politics.

"We've spoken with Cuba and Cuba doesn't want him," Gamarra said.

3. I s this the whole story?
After all I have read today I have got to wonder. Are ALL immigrants forbidden to be involved in politics, or just not allowed to be involved with radical separatist movements.

If it is the former I say that is an unjust law and I hope they set a good example by being rid of it.

He had and was (with US gov help) facilitating Cuban doctors violate their legal contract with the Bolivian government that enabled them to practice in Bolivia.
