With Hussein Dead, Iraqis Consider Fate of His Body
By MARC SANTORA
Published: December 30, 2006

BAGHDAD, Saturday, Dec. 30 — After the hanging, the body remains.

While the verdict and death sentence for Saddam Hussein were swift and unambiguous, it was much less clear on Saturday what would be done with his body.

Privately, both American and Iraqi officials say that the subject has been raised at the highest levels, but no decisions have been made. There is wide disagreement on the subject of his body, according to interviews with several top Western and Iraqi officials, nearly all of whom insisted on anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

The most discussed options include sending his body out of the country to his family in Jordan, where two of his daughters live; burying him in a secret location never to be made public; burying him in a secret location but, after a period of time, having him disinterred and sent to his family or tribe; or sending him immediately to his hometown of Tikrit to be buried with members of his tribe.

In fact, a top Sunni politician even raised the prospect of holding a state funeral for Mr. Hussein. That idea, a Western official said, had very little chance of becoming reality.

Salahedeen Hamad Humood, the governor of Salahedeen Province, which includes Tikrit, said, “We demand an official funeral for Saddam Hussein; he is the ex-president of Iraq, and he should be buried next to his sons.”...

1. And here we go... They have made him a hero!!!
Keep the gallows warm, there are more threats to humanity that need a long drop on a short rope.

6. He's always been a hero to his clansmen and even
his tribesmen. So many al-Tikritiyoun among the upper echelons of Saddam's regime. Family, cousins, clan, tribe, ethnicity ... he was hanged with a half-brother.

And he was a moderate hero to the Sunni Arabs. He'll never be a hero among most of the others.

3. Gee, you'd think they'd have taken the time to iron out those details
before the execution, wouldn't ya? So what the hell were they yabbering with the US all night about? That was supposed to be one of the details worked out during that loooong conference call with the US.

7. same plan - chaos
that is the only plan the BFEE has for the ME and Iraq - not excluding the US either.

8. Just read in another thread that people were dancing around the bodies. If
that's true and the film gets out, there will be even more chaos. That was supposedly one of the concerns the US had - it had to be a "respectful" execution. :eyes: Then again, that was probably said with the usual "wink, wink, nudge, nudge". As UpInArms stated, chaos IS the Bushco plan.

10. Reuters: Saddam daughter asking body be buried in Yemen
Saddam daughter asking body be buried in Yemen
30 Dec 2006 00:53:03 GMT
Source: Reuters

DUBAI, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein's daughter has asked that his body
be buried in Yemen, a source close to the family told Reuters on Saturday.

Iraqi officials have said Saddam will be executed at dawn in Baghdad, after
being convicted on Nov. 5 of crimes against humanity in the killings of 148
Shi'ite men in the town of Dujail in 1982.

His daughter Raghd, who is exiled in Jordan, "is asking that his body be buried
in Yemen temporarily until Iraq is liberated and it can be reburied in Iraq,"
a source close to the family said by telephone.

Defence lawyer Issam Jhazzawi told Reuters earlier Saddam's daughters were
bracing for his imminent death. "The family are praying for him every minute
and are calling on God that He let his soul rest in peace among the martyrs,"
he said.

11. I think we should send it to free republic and let their blood thirsty
"Christian" cannibals eat it. They wanted the death so much. Give them the body and let them orgasm over the morbity.

16. It should go to his family- no question.
What is wrong with these people that death is not enough? Let his daughter at least have his body to mourn and have a burial with respect.
