1. Okay, Petraeus has a brain in his head but..
What the hell is he bringing to the upcoming Sadr City 'surge'?

21. Do you think Petraeus supports "surge" aka "escalation"?
Because he seems to be the only remaining officer with a brain. Could Bush actually be pursuing contrary opinions?

2. Amazing
I was on two Naval ROTC summer cruises with Bill Fallon and in the same aviation program in Pensacola after graduation. He seemed the least likely of anyone I knew to make a craeer out of the Navy, much less to rise to the top. That's about as amazing as having a chimp for Commander-in-Chief

3. This is against common sense. You don't change the management
when you are instituting a new program.

Abizaid and Casey have been like milk toast. They have done everything the chimpy wanted. So whazzup?

Maybe chimpy should go "over there" and run the war his way himself.

5. Who wants to be the last general to lie for a mistake?
If Abizaid and Casey retire quickly like many have, it could make for some interesting interviews.

Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 02:33 AM by darkstar

WASHINGTON -
President Bush is shaking up the team responsible for carrying out his military and diplomatic strategies in
Iraq as he prepares to outline a new direction for the war that has raged for nearly four years

Bush will replace Gen. John P. Abizaid, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, and Gen. George Casey, the chief general in Iraq, in the coming weeks, according to media reports Thursday. A revamping of the administration's national security team was already under way.

Bush wants to replace Abizaid with Adm. William Fallon, the top U.S. commander in the Pacific, and Casey's replacement will be Army Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, who headed the effort to train Iraqi security forces, the reports citing administration officials said.

16. Probably nothing.
I get messages, I read weird sites. I listen to my little Sgt boy.

I read american history for fun, I do. My parent's, uncles - they were officers in other wars.

DO I smell BS - I sure do.

It really stinks right now, too.

Joe

17. I see this as ramping up for the next war.
The Iran assault will start as a naval build-up followed by carrier air strikes and sea launched cruise missile attacks. Fallon has been in the air attack business for most of his career and has taken a very hawkish stance on Iran. I served with him as an NROTC midshipman on two summer cruises and later on in the Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola. He wound up in the back seat of the Navy's R-A5C Vigilante photo reconnaissance plane thanks to poor grades in Pensacola. I remember him as an affable fuck-up who would definitely be Dubya's kind of guy. I did a little Google search on my old shipmate and found that they love him at FreeRepublic.

24. Yep. War With Iran Will Involve Keeping The Strait Of Hormuz Open
and the carriers operating.

Appointing an Admiral, especially one along the lines of a 'Keitel', is a tell.

19. Considering more troops to deal with the rising violence in Baghdad, Bush said
"One thing is for certain: I will want to make sure the mission is clear and specific and can be accomplished."

didn't take a whole lot of Googling to figure THAT out:

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0OBA/is_2_24/ai_n16348356

Here's a select quote!

"We are winning on the battlefield everyday. I just spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace, and Commander, U.S. Central Command Gen. John Abizaid, and many of our other leaders, who have been in the field the last couple of weeks. They have been to Afghanistan and Iraq, and they report that they sense a growing confidence among our people in the field and, more importantly, among the Iraqis with whom they are dealing. As the capabilities of Iraqi and Afghan security forces grow, this is beginning to have a ripple effect in Iraqi society."

23. The Adm. is an aviator who doesn't know a thing about ground wars.
Aviators: Rumsfeld, Bush and Meyers are what got us into this mess in the first place.

If you're a grunt on the ground, you've got to be ticked off by this.

Competence is not an issue for Team Bush. Just loyalty. The Bush corporate cabal will put an ADMIRAL in charge of TWO LAND WARS because he is a loyal SYCOPHANT YES-MAN! They are operating like the mafia and this latest purge is traitorous malfeasance.
