Cheney Calls Ex-Aide Libby 'Honest'

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney called his former chief of staff, who goes on trial this week in the CIA leak case, ``one of the more honest men I know'' and said Sunday he expects to testify for the defense.

I. Lewis ``Scooter'' Libby faces charges of perjury and obstruction of an investigation into the leak of a CIA officer's identity to reporters.

Cheney would not say whether he would testify in open court or possibly via videotape.

``I have indicated from the very beginning my wholehearted cooperation with the investigation and with whatever legal proceedings emerge out of that. And this will all unfold here in the very near future,'' he said.

1. Actually You Have To Parse What He Said To Fully Understand It
"one of the most honest men I know" doesn't mean honest, given the sort of people that Cheney knows.

What Cheney was really saying is it's ok to lie for a good cause...every politician lies all the time anyway....and the people are too dumb to know what's good for them so we have to lie to them to get them to go along with what daddy knows is best for them...

This is straight out of Leo Strauss....

14. The logistics involved in bringing Crashcart to the courtroom
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 05:22 PM by JulieRB
in the Libby case are so daunting as to make it happening virtually impossible.

For instance -- the gallery (those who either got a seat on that particular day via lottery or were standing in line and allowed to be a spectator,) would have to be cleared at the least. If not, EVERYONE in court would have to have a background check. Two weeks before, complete names, Social Security numbers, and photo ID would have to be submitted to (I imagine,) either the Secret Service or the FBI. The entire courthouse would also most likely have to be sealed while CC made his way in and out with his huge security detail, many black Suburbans, the ambulance, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. It would be a circus.

I have to hand it to Judge Walton. He is doing his best to allow as much of this trial to be witnessed by press and public as he can without turning it into an OJ Simpson debacle.

4. Note that Cheney said "honest" in comparative terms.

In that nest of vipers that is Cheney's peer group,
Lewis Libby could indeed be one of the more honest
people there. He is still a liar.

edit for spelling

5. What a credible character witness you are you evil bastard
really, Darth Cheney, who even listens to your view of someone's character anyway? A favorable opinion on your part of someone should actually be unfavorable to people in the reality based community.

After all, we all know that Dick Cheney is the arbiter of what's honest and true, isn't he?
