Immigration centers fail health checks

WASHINGTON - Authorities failed to maintain adequate health and safety standards for some of the suspected illegal immigrants housed at five detention centers, according to an audit report by the Homeland Security department's inspector general.


The report released Tuesday found health care violations at four of the five sites inspected and environmental health and safety concerns at three of the five.

It found noncompliance with "general conditions" of confinement at all five, "including disciplinary policy, classifying detainees and housing together detainees classified at different security levels."

The report said Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials failed to provide non-emergency medical care for some inmates in a timely matter and sometimes improperly limited access to relatives, lawyers and immigration authorities.

I sent an E-mail to the Texas branch of the National Association of Social Workers re: a center in Texas that is housing immigrant adults and children. Some of the adults apparently are in the country legally and some of the children are U.S. citizens. The article stated that the children aren't being cared for properly and are not receiving any education other than 1 hour of English a day. Their medical needs aren't being looked after and at times the food makes them ill, the article stated. I believe I read this article on DU but I may have read it on Huff Post. I'm not able to find it now. I requested NASW look into this. By state law abuse and neglect of children isn't tolerated. If a parent did this to a child, the child would be removed and the parents punished. FYI, this prison is a for profit prison in Texas. NASW didn't return my E-mail. There is apparently one of these prison in Penn. also.

Isn't that what they did in the Nazi Concentration camps?

See the elite corporatist could have their cake and eat it too. They could continually entice poor South American citizens to our country to do the jobs Americans wont do (in many cases the factories bus them across the border). While at the same time locking them up in concentration camps. The bushes could control the illegal immigrants they asked to come here and still get that cheap, cheap labor corporations are addicted to.

It's a win-win situation. Control of illegal workers and cheap, cheap labor for those corporations to make their profits. This is much like those Arab countries we sold our ports to. They set up little detention camps for their slave labor too. Liberty on the march. :sarcasm:
