US rejects claims of Maliki rift
by Laurent Lozano

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US administration is working to put its relationship with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki back on track, dispelling rumors of growing resentment over the seemingly intractable situation in Iraq.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Thursday said she was "sorry" if Maliki was offended by her comment that his government, a vital cog in President George W. Bush's last-ditch bid to pacify Baghdad, was on "borrowed time."

"I dispute the characterization that he was very critical of the president," White House spokesman Tony Snow said, highlighting Maliki's announcement that Iraqi forces had captured 400 members of the radical Mahdi Army militia.

"The president is absolutely resolute and steadfast in his support of this government. I don't think that there's any distance when it comes to key issues," Snow said.

2. Maliki had better start packing....
When the White House issues a statement like this, "The president is absolutely resolute and steadfast in his support of this government. I don't think that there's any distance when it comes to key issues," Snow said......... you know you days are numbered and it's time to post your resume on Monster.com.

Maliki shouldn't feel too bad though. He's in good company (Meirs, Rumsfeld, Tenet etc. etc. etc. ) and a sure Medal of Freedom honoree if I ever saw one.

4. Who are you going to believe?.....
The chimp or your lying eyes? The verbal sparring since the Hadley memo was leaked has been continuous. The chimp needs someone to blame for his failure and Maliki is convenient.
