Paper: Jordan King wants nuclear program
JERUSALEM - Jordan's King Abdullah II told an Israeli newspaper Friday that his country wants its own nuclear program.

In an interview with the daily Haaretz, Abdullah said his desert kingdom, which borders Israel and has a peace agreement with it, wanted nuclear power "for peaceful purposes" and was already discussing its plans with Western countries.

"The rules governing the nuclear issue have changed in the entire region," the Jordanian leader told Haaretz, noting that Egypt and several Gulf states have declared their desire for a nuclear program. Though Jordan would rather see a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, he said, "every desire we had on this issue has changed."

It was the first time Abdullah spoke openly about desires for a Jordanian nuclear program for peaceful purposes.

"The Egyptians are looking for a nuclear program. The GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) are looking at one, and we are actually looking at nuclear power for peaceful and energy purposes," he told Haaretz.

1. So, who's to BLAME for arming the ME with nukes?
Would that be the Bush Administration?

Should Congress ask, to how many countries has the US sold nuclear armaments?

2. Someone will have to explain to Iran that it can't have a nuclear program
but Jordan and/or Egypt can.

5. That's easy
Iran is Persian Shia, so they "don't count" to the Sunni Arabs in the region.

3. Can you blame him? Can you blame any ME country at this point for feeling it needs to be armed to
the teeth?

6. No, I thank him for pointing out
Bush and Cheney's armchair games.

I don't believe King Abdullah is a proponent of Nuclear Weapons.
I believe he's done this to illustrate the manipulation and damage done by
the World's super powers, mainly the US of A and it's counterpart Russia.

Highly recommended movie: "Lords of War".. w/Nick Cage

4. The Sunnis want the bomb to offset Iran
Sunni Jordan is not thrilled that soon-to-be-nuclear Shiite Iran is exerting influence in Iraq. If the Iranians get the bomb, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Arabs will want it as well.

17. The threat of mutual annihilation has always worked in the past for
keeping the peace. Why change anything now? One guy gets the bomb, everybody gets the bomb. Sounds good to me. (Life is really pointless, anyway. Right?)

9. Tom Lehrer song from "That Was The Year That Was"
http://www.casualhacker.net/tom.lehrer/the_year.html

Who's Next?
One of the big news items of the past year concerned the fact that China, which we called "Red China," exploded a nuclear bomb, which we called a device. Then Indonesia announced that it was going to have one soon, and proliferation became the word of the day. Here's a song about that:

First we got the bomb, and that was good,
'Cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that's okay,
'Cause the balance of power's maintained that way.
Who's next?

France got the bomb, but don't you grieve,
'Cause they're on our side (I believe).
China got the bomb, but have no fears,
They can't wipe us out for at least five years.
Who's next?

Then Indonesia claimed that they
Were gonna get one any day.
South Africa wants two, that's right:
One for the black and one for the white.
Who's next?

Egypt's gonna get one too,
Just to use on you know who.
So Israel's getting tense.
Wants one in self defense.
"The Lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a bomb.
Who's next?

Luxembourg is next to go,
And (who knows?) maybe Monaco.
We'll try to stay serene and calm
When Alabama gets the bomb.
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?

19. I remember another "Wash. Rinse. Repeat." from the not so distant past....
Power. Corruption. Revolution.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It stuck with me and in the couple of times I've said this to others, it's clearly resonated. I didn't remember the author, but now I know where credit is due. :hi:

BTW, your DU name is perfect. MKJ
