Anti-Muslim rage hits others in U.S (hispanics too)

"Go back to Iraq!" the young men shouted as they beat and kicked the pizza delivery man in the face, breaking his jaw in three places. ---

Weeks after the attack left him with a pierced lung and liver and sipping his meals through a straw, 24-year-old Saurabh Bhalerao showed little emotion as he recounted the grisly details of what he called "an isolated incident."

But the attack may be part of a wider trend. A new report by the Council on American-Islamic Relations revealed hostility, discrimination and violence have risen in America against Muslims and people simply presumed to be Muslims.

"They didn't even know the difference between India and Iraq," Bhalerao, his jaw wired, told Reuters. ---

Mohamed Nimer, director of research at the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said ignorance is "rampant" in America and is among the reasons for a 15 percent increase in anti-Muslim violence, discrimination and harassment in 2002.

In a report issued this month, Nimer said anger about the September 11, 2001, attacks and "discriminatory" government policies like the USA Patriot Act have combined to make America a risky place for Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim.

"It's more dangerous than ever," said Nimer, noting that Sikhs, Hindus, and even non-Muslim Hispanics have been the target of anti-Muslim violence. "It doesn't matter if you're Muslim or not."

Stoking the flames of hate, he says, is anti-Islamic rhetoric from Christian preachers like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham, son of the Reverend Billy Graham.

This hatred is also being bred by Faux News, Rush Limbaugh and all other hate radio shows along with the religious right. The idiot sheeple who only listen to TV and radio are zombies for these nut cases who push them to act out their hatred.

Hate is a family value in the right wing. Sick bastards.

am I wrong or was the term "Ugly American" originally reserved for those traveling abroad? Now we are seen as ugly right here on our own turf.

Ignorance is exceptional inside the United States about different cultures and ethnicities.

I'm Iranian-American, and of course, as Iranian i have fairer skin tone and lighter features than Arabs, Indians, Pakistinis, and some Hispanics. People are always shocked that i'm of Iranian background, like light features is something 'amazing' inside of Iran. Which dumbfounds me because we're not even of the same ethnicity, nor origin as any of the countries in the region. (ethnically mostly persians and indo-european origin).

Even if you look at the dreaded Ayatollahs and Mullahs they have exceptionally light skin. Khatami and Khameini both are very light skinned people, as are most Ayatollahs and Mullahs in Iran if you just concentrate on the skin tone.

'Brown Skin' is extremely rare inside the country.

Look at the pictures below of the leaders and ladies one can see that the skin tone in Iran is similar to that in Europe. Although there are minority dark skinned, majority are of a lighter skin toned similar to Greece, and Italy.

That's all I can say.

One a Pakistani man who owns a store here had to move..another Jordanian man who owns a store here, I give business to all the time because Im afraid he might not be getting the business he once got, another owns a store here and he is from India...he says he gets yelled at a lot..I told him to call the police if he does..

Persons are offended and injured just because they are considered beeing Iraqi. Has anyone a right to hit Iraqis? It doesn´t matter if your Iraqi or Hispanic or anything else, NOONE has a right to hurt you! The fact that the stupids cannot make a difference between countries, is not the really terrifying thing in my opinion; what frightens me, is that they are just trying to kill someone: next time it´s a disabled person or a drunkard or...anyone else who cannot strike back. NAZI-style, isn´t it?

After 9/11, it was Arabs in general. Indians were attacked because people were still muddled as to who was/wasn't Arab or Muslim. Brown skin= the enemy in their sick minds.
And you're right. It doesn't matter who you are, no one has the right to hurt you. But these attacks are, IMO, more painful because people are so stupid that they're clueless as to who they're hurting or attacking...

The militarization--with the agressive drum beat to "action"--of this problem could only result in these kinds of hate crimes.

The same thing happened during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979, and dozens of hate crimes were committed against Hispanics in Texas. ShrubCo knew this. Another indictment against them.
