Jordan-U.S overall trade surpasses $1.7b
(MENAFN) The Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Amman (AmCham) announced that the overall trade between Jordan and the U.S has increased by 9.5 percent to reach $1.709 billion the first ten months of 2006, compared to the same period of 2005, the Jordan Times reported.

AmCham Chairman indicated that the increase in Jordan's exports to the U.S, which soared by 453 percent between 2001 and 2005, was due to the successfulness of the qualified industrial zones (QIZs) and the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA). However, Jordan's imports from the U.S increased by 3.4 percent in the first ten months of 2006.

Jordan's main exports to the U.S were textiles, jewelry, machinery, mechanical appliances, electrical machinery, plastics and pharmaceutics.

The main imports from the U.S to Jordan were machinery and mechanical appliances, vehicles, arms and ammunition , cereals, aircrafts and parts, electrical machinery and equipment, optical, measuring, precision and medical and surgical instruments and parts.

It is worth mentioning that the United States is Jordan's second trade partner after the KSA.
