BALTIMORE - Speaking to GOP lawmakers Friday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney criticized recent comments made by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) regarding Iran.

The frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination said during a speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Thursday night that she "needs to understand Iran" and wanted to engage in conversations about the region.

Romney, in remarks to the Republican Study Committee, said if Clinton needs to "understand Iran, hasn't been paying attention."

The former Massachusetts governor expressed his concern over a nuclear Iran and detailed a "five-point plan" for dealing with the country...

BALTIMORE (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday accused Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of "timidity" regarding the security threat posed by Iran.

In a speech to a retreat of conservative congressional Republicans, Romney lashed out at Clinton for telling a pro-Israel dinner that a dialogue with countries hostile to Israel — including Iran and Syria — is needed to promote peace in the Middle East.

"At this point, We don't need a listening tour about Iran," Romney told the Republican Study Committee. "Someone who wants to engage Iran displays a troubling timidity toward a terrible threat of a nuclear Iran."

In a speech Thursday night at a Manhattan dinner held by the nation's largest pro-Israel lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Clinton called Iran a danger to the U.S. and one of Israel's greatest threats...

8. Iran would only be a danger to the US if we attack them.
Iran is only a danger to Israel because the Israelis have kicked the Palestinians out of their country. Anyone who does not understand this is blind to reality and this includes most of the people in our government.

12. Thank you.
Rarely has anyone ever summed up this situation as clearly and accurately.

Just like Iraq--they weren't a threat to anyone until we invaded!

Stupid is as stupid does.

25. Interesting.
You say: "Iran would only be a danger to the US if we attack them." Perhaps, true enough. Then you say: "Iran is only a danger to Israel because the Israelis have kicked the Palestinians out of their country." Well, that isn't true, but it does beg the question, "what business is it of Iran's?" Israel is engaged in a war with the Palestinians, not Iranians. But, you have taken the line that hard line right-wingers in Israel have taken...Iran is a threat (already) to Israel.

I know...cheap shot, but his comment is just plain stupid.

I guess that's the new GOPoid strategy. Iran is not the Big Bad Wolf. We need to kill 'em pronto...and anybody who disagrees is a pansy... Yeah, I get it.

16. Diplomacy with an adversary is "timid?" Romney is posturing like a BushBot on steroids.
His "five-point plan" of tough sanctions and isolation is the Bush & Co. plan
with a new label. Our allies aren't playing along.

Mittens has outdone himself. He's now acting like a warmongering cowboy.

Hillary Clinton calls Iran a threat to US, Israel
(AP)

2 February 2007

NEW YORK - Calling Iran a danger to the US and one of Israel’s greatest threats, US senator and presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said no option can be taken off the table’ when dealing with that nation.

US policy must be clear and unequivocal: We cannot, we should not, we must not permit Iran to build or acquire nuclear weapons,’ the Democrat told a crowd of Israel supporters. In dealing with this threat ... no option can be taken off the table.’

Clinton spoke at a Manhattan dinner held by the largest pro-Israel lobbying group in the U.S., the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Some 1,700 supporters applauded as she cited her efforts on behalf of the Jewish state and spoke scathingly of Iran’s decision to hold a conference last month that questioned whether the Holocaust took place.

snip

We need to use every tool at our disposal, including diplomatic and economic in addition to the threat and use of military force,’ she said.
