McDermott again in hot water over Saddam comments
Washington-AP -- A Washington congressman is suggesting the timing of Saddam Hussein's capture may have been a publicity stunt to help President Bush.

Democrat Jim McDermott told a Seattle radio station (K-I-R-O) today that the military could have found Saddam "a long time ago" if it wanted.

McDermott said he didn't know for sure if the operation had been planned for this past weekend -- but he says he does know there were people "all along who knew basically" where Saddam was.

When asked if he thought the capture was timed out to help Bush, McDermott laughed and said -- quote -- "Yeah. Oh, yeah."

McDermott said in an interview with The Associated Press that the timing of the capture was suspicious -- but was not implying it was delayed on purpose.

State Republicans immediately condemned McDermott's remarks, and Democrats are distancing themselves.

1. The last time they all jumped on Jim for his comments...
...it turned out he was absolutely right. And I'll bet he's right this time too. And the Republicans in this state can go fuck themselves.

3. Doesn't Anyone Else Think It Is Strange...
that Iraqi War Crimes Tribunal was just created on Thursday?

War Crimes Tribunal Created To Try Dictator

-SNIP-
The war crimes tribunal which could try Saddam Hussein and sentence him to death was created yesterday.

Iraq's governing council drew up the statutes of the court and members promised to bring all Ba'ath Party war criminals before the tribunal, including the coalition's 55 most wanted men.

The US-led Coalition Provisional Authority has suspended the death penalty, but council members said it could be reinstated after sovereignty is restored next summer, in time for trials.

I stated before that I did not think there was anything fishy going on with the story of Saddams capture as it is being told by the media. Now I'm on the fence.

4. The imminent capture has been known since 12/2
McDermott has more courage in his little pinkie than all the Repubs do gathered together in one large heap. Shame on the Dems who distance themselves!

Let's not forget this little tidbit from an Illinois Repub congressman on December 2:

U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood held his thumb and forefinger slightly apart and said, "We're this close" to catching Saddam Hussein.
Once that's accomplished, Iraqi resistance will fall apart, said the five-term Republican congressman from Peoria who serves on the House Intelligence Committee.

A member of The Pantagraph editorial board -- not really expecting an answer -- asked LaHood for more details, saying, "Do you know something we don't?"

"Yes I do," replied LaHood.

The Republicans take us all for fools, and I'm sick of it.

7. Is this why Saddam's capture was timed for Sunday?
Halliburton gets more work in Iraq

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=businessNews&storyID=3996701

The U.S. military said on Monday Vice President Dick Cheney's former company Halliburton was allocated $222 million more last week for work in Iraq, at the same time as a Pentagon audit found the firm may have overbilled for some services there.

12. Why is it spineless to reject McD?
He is fringy (as many of us are).
They don't believe what he is saying (many of us DO NOT).
My spine is intact --- McD is an idiot.

11. Bravo!
He can say what he wants, he was elected by the people.

When I saw that broadcast on Sunday I also thought (knew) it was planned. Oh you smirking chimp, do you really think you can shock and awe us? I guess you'll "find" Osama say in September or October of next year too.
