New Baghdad Security Plan Is Underway, U.S. Military Says

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- The long-awaited Baghdad security operation has begun, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq said Wednesday.

The Iraqi general who is leading the security drive took over the operation headquarters on Monday, but there had been no announcement until Wednesday that the sweep, the third attempt to crush violence in nine months, was under way.

"It is ongoing as we speak," U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell said. "The implementation of the prime minister's plan has already begun and will be fully implemented at a later date, having all the parts and pieces that he wants.

"But portions are already being put in place, and we'll continue to put more into place as the forces arrive and the assets become available."

4. If you can get into their web site the front page is a stopper.
http://www.nytimes.com/indexes/2007/02/07/pageone/scan/index.html

The picture on the top of the fold is a full color explanation of why our Iraq War Crime is a complete failure and why we need to get out now.

A devastated woman is being consoled by her husband in their living room. Both of them are on the floor surrounded by a squad of full battle gear storm troopers, guns pointed at them. This is the "surge". This is what fascism looks like. This is what is being done in our name. The "crackdown" in baghdad is invading home after home; the crackdown is terrorism backed by the full might of an imperial state.

6. AFP: US, Iraqi troops push deep into Baghdad Sunni bastion
US, Iraqi troops push deep into Baghdad Sunni bastion

by David Furst

Wed Feb 7, 7:33 AM ET

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi and US forces have pushed deep into one of Baghdad's
most notorious Sunni bastions, making arrests and seizing weapons as part
of a new plan to overrun insurgent strongholds in the capital.

-snip-

A US military official said a crackdown on Sunni insurgents in the northeastern
Adhamiyah district of the Iraqi capital had begun Tuesday in an operation involving
some 2,000 US troops and hundreds of Iraqi soldiers.

According to an AFP photographer embedded with the US military more than a dozen
people were detained overnight and large numbers of weapons seized.

Major Robie Parke of 3-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team said the security sweep in the
Shaab and Ur areas of Adhamiyah marked the start of the much-vaunted crackdown
by US and Iraqi forces against Shiite militias and Sunni insurgents in Baghdad.

7. Security crackdown underway in Baghdad
BAGHDAD (AP) — Baghdad's streets were electric with tension Wednesday as U.S. officials confirmed the new security operation was underway. U.S. armor rushed through streets, and Iraqi armored personnel carriers guarded bridges and major intersections.
New coils of barbed-wire and blast barriers marked checkpoints that caused traffic bottlenecks. U.S. Apache helicopters whipped the air over parts of the capital where they hadn't been seen before.

But gunfire still rang out across the city, and some residents said they doubted life would get better. "Nothing will work, it's too late," said Hashem al-Moussawi, a resident of the Sadr City Shiite enclave who was badly wounded in a bombing in December.

Underlining the dangers, a U.S. Marine transport helicopter crashed northwest of Baghdad, killing all seven on board — the fifth American aircraft lost in Iraq in just over two weeks. A military statement did not give a cause for the crash, but a senior U.S. defense official in Washington said the CH-46 Sea Knight did not appear to have been hit by hostile fire. An Iraqi air force officer, however, said the chopper was downed by an anti-aircraft missile. An al-Qaeda-linked Sunni group claimed in a Web statement that it was responsible.

There is nothing to work....or not work. It's a clusterfuck.

There is no mission. There is no plan.

It is a hoax, just like everything else this administration orchestrates.

11. Clusterf*ck indeed...This is farcical...
Checkpoints blocking half the lanes of traffic. Iraqi army convoys firing into the air over the heads of motorists. A private security company coming under fire and exploding GREEN & WHITE smoke bombs so they could make their getaway.

Speeding away, they lean out their windows and throw WATER BOTTLES at passing motorists so they get out of the way.

Four guards from a TV station were killed by SECURITY PERSONNEL escorting visitors to the Justice Ministry fercrissake!.

The TV official can't speak on the record because he's not authorized to talk to the media. (I thought TV people WERE the media.

UN-believable!
