US soldier killed in attack in northern Iraq

Iraq guard killed, nine wounded in ambush near Iran border, Italian troops in firefight with insurgents in southern Iraq.

BAGHDAD - One US soldier died of his wounds after his patrol was attacked Thursday with small arms fire near the town of Hawija in northern Iraq as Italian troops traded fire Thursday with insurgents in the southern Iraq town of Nasiriyah.

The attack happened at about 1:00 pm (0900 GMT) near Hawija, a hotbed of Sunni insurgents west of the northern oil city of Kirkuk.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi border guard was killed and nine others wounded when insurgents ambushed their convoy near the Iranian border on Thursday morning, the border security unit said.

1. Young Soldiers Never Die They Just Fade Away

Young Soldiers Never Die They Just Fade Away

I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death.

They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory.

Always, for them: Duty, Honor, Country; always their blood and sweat and tears, as we sought the way and the light and the truth.

Bush has lied and tricked us into this crazy war, and now we must fight our way out. We owe our allegiance to the United States of America and our Constitution.

This private war dishonors us and our troops. More than 3000 have died for what? Oil? Money? Free Iraqis? We can't go on with this endless death and violence. Therefore, it's our right and our duty as citizens to fight to bring home our troops, our children.

It's time to stop Bush and his cabal and take back our country.

3. Unfortunately young soldiers do die, not just fade away like the old ones

fortunate enough to have survived a conflict.

And thousands upon thousands more young soldiers are horribly maimed for life.

It is not glorious to lose one's life or limb for an ignoble cause. It is sad, tragic and pathetic.

End the killing.

Bring the troops home.

Send those responsible to the Hague.
