US Economy Shows Continued Growth
Newly released statistics show continued signs of growth for the U.S. economy.
The Federal Reserve says U.S. industrial production jumped by 0.9 percent in November, the strongest showing in more than four years and more than double what many economists had predicted, led by strong gains in factory and utility output.

At the same time, the Commerce Department reports housing construction rose by 4.5 percent in November, registering the fastest building pace for new homes and apartments in nearly two decades.

Economist James Glassman of the American Enterprise Institute says all signs point to continued economic expansion. "It is very, very impressive," he said. "These new figures show a confirmation that business investment is improving, so it is not just the consumer who is spending and boosting the economy. This recovery is much broader."

3. They needed a comment from Imperial Pravda
Where better than an Imperial Propaganda Mill, called a "think tank" because of it's vague resemblence to institutions of a Formerly Free Nation, the Old American Republic.

6. What happened to "greatest since 1982" - Reagan disaster remembered?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 02:42 PM by papau
It was in this paragraph:

"Is brisk economic activity kindling inflation? Not according to the Commerce Department, which says consumer prices dipped by 0.2 percent in November, thanks to less expensive gasoline, clothes and airline fares in the United States. Excluding food and energy prices, so-called "core" prices declined by 0.1 percent. November's drop followed a flat consumer price reading in October." The core drop is largest since 1982.

Amazing how Rove gets the rewrites done so quickly for the wires amd the major media.

Not that we have a right wing GOP controlled media - they just act like they are.

7. Continued growth for bush campaing money and Halliburton
scams. I just cancelled my new years party because most of my neighbors and friends lost their jobs, and they're in no mood to party. Most people I know who work in retail, have been made to work long hours because their stores did not hire the holiday crew they usually do. Retail is Down.

8. Inflation at 38-Year Low
Dec 16, 2:17 PM (ET)

By Tim Ahmann
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. consumer prices took a surprise tumble last month, dragging the underlying inflation rate to a nearly 38-year low, even as industrial output and groundbreaking for homes surged, reports showed on Tuesday.

A separate report showed the shortfall in the U.S. current account, the broadest measure of America's trade with the rest of the world, shrank more than expected in the third quarter.

The slew of data suggested the economy was stronger than most analysts had thought. But with signs inflation was slowing, economists said the Federal Reserve could keep interest rates at basement levels for a long stretch.

Prices for inflation-sensitive U.S Treasury securities rose on the inflation report, but fell back after the strong industrial production figures were released.

9. Also known as deflation.
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 03:55 PM by ozone_man
Might as well get used to it now, it's going to be mentioned a lot more frequently this year. It amazes me how they call it the lowest inflation in 40 years, but they don't like to mention the possibility of deflation. When it goes negative in 2004, they will have to call it negative inflation, still not mentioning the D word.

10. And the point of posting this is what? That Bush is a good president?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 03:58 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
on edit: THANKYOU MODS! I was beginning to think we were posting in a parellel universe where Halliburton was NOT raiding the government coffers, people were GAINFULLY employed and Saddam's capture meant peace on earth and was a good rationalization for MORE pre-emptive wars in order to create peace! :D

19. If inflation is so low why is everything so much more expensive this year?
I don't want to rely on anecdotal evidence, but aside from interest rates, what hasn't gone up at least 10% in price this year? Housing? Prices here have tripled in the last three years. Autos? Food? Healthcare? Natural gas? Gasoline? Clothes? Phone? Cable?

Someone plese tell me. I must be shopping in the wrong places.

13. Crap has jumped to crap-plus-0.9-percent.
Whoop-de-doo. How many more percentage points will the economy have to jump before it is equal to the worst economic year under Clinton?

But this is quite a strategy. Tank the economy to where it can't go any lower, and then crow about percentage gains when it starts to crawl back up.

18. I'll tell you how.
He did nothing but post articles. Never commented. Never replied. All he did was post positive Republican articles, usually in LARGE batches. However, that alone isn't 'alertable'. Just posting an article or two which makes pukies look good or Dems look bad isn't a tombstone offense. He obviously knew that, and took advantage of it.

Unfortunately for him, he plastered so many articles today that it got really annoying, annoying enough for at least one of us to start complaining.

15. Local anecdotal info....here in Las Cruces, for the second week in a row
the report on new home starts is far less than the number of bankruptcies.
In fact, there were very few new start the week from Dec. 1- Dec 6, and only a handful of "additions" getting permits.

But bankrupticies ....close to 40-50.
