Obama previews '08 announcement on the web

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A day before Sen. Barack Obama officially declares his candidacy for president, the Illinois Democrat called on his supporters Friday to activate their political networks to help him raise money and develop grassroots support for his campaign.

"I am absolutely convinced that we can do a different kind of campaign, one that opens up the process and empowers everyday voters all across the country," Obama said in a video posted on his presidential exploratory committee website.

On Saturday, Obama will formally say he is running for the Democratic presidential nomination in Springfield, Illinois and then head to Iowa, which hosts the country's first presidential contest.

2. I received two emails from the Obama people today
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 11:19 PM by rebel with a cause
One to invite me to the event tomorrow and one to tell me where I can watch it live tomorrow. I cannot physically be there but I will try to watch it live at www.barackobama.com. The times when the speech can be seen are at 10:55 AM eastern, 9:55 AM central, 8:55 AM mountain, 7:55 pacific.

There is also another article on Yahoo! news about the event. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070210/ap_on_el_pr/obama2008_springfield
This article is interesting in the fact that it reports every negative thing it can come up with on Springfield, IL. Like the fact that the Donner party started out from there. So Obama is announcing his candancy from the home of connibals? There were also racial incidents happen there. So Obama is announcing his candancy in the place where several black men were lynched and there were race riots in 1908? Nice way of trying to throw a shadow over tomorrow's event. JMHO

4. Of course, it's also where Abe Lincoln gave the House Divided speech.

6. Yes, I know. Illinois history in my day was Lincoln's history. (ha)

I was just being critical of the article, I tend to do that now because of the news bias these days. I am from Illinois and very proud of Lincoln, although we are called "the land of liars" because Lincoln was born in Kentucky. :7

9. Thank you for posting that information.
Once again I came off as a Know-it-all in my post #6. I tend to do that, especially when I try to be funny.

Anyway, thank you for posting information that a lot of people do not know about the place where Obama is about to make his announcement.

7. Well, tar and feather that one. (ha)
That is good news. I like Obama, and even when I don't agree with him, I have to say he makes me feel better about the chances of life getting better in this country.

3. You know, that seems like a genuinely good man...
we can only hope that he's not going to turn around and backtrack and go for the big donors.

8. He is asking for people to come together and raise money
from the small contributers. I am on a limited income, but if things continue to go the way they are, I will try to contribute to his campaign and maybe even contact others about giving. He cannot backtrack too much and have me in his camp. I trust Obama and like him, but I am not a "bodice ripper". Never have been one.
