PoliticsTV.com vloggers have YouTube account suspended
Edited on Sat Feb-10-07 04:03 PM by TheBaldyMan
You may have recognised the name, especially if you have been viewing clips on the 'Scooter' Libby trial in the political videos forum.

PoliticsTV have been following the Libby trial and posting quite a bit of original content online.

Earlier this evening (UK time) I found that their account had been suspended. http://www.politicstv.com/blog/?p=1590">Their website has this to say on the matter:

VIDEOS TEMPORARILY DOWN - NOTE TO OUR VIEWERS

PoliticsTV.com’s videos are temporarily down - we are disappointed to report YouTube has suspended our account.

Recent videos — e.g. the Scooter Libby Trial and DNC Presidential Candidate Videos — will be reposted in a matter of hours, and our full archive of 350 original videos, to which we own full copyright, will be posted very soon.
<snip>
PoliticsTV.com posts 95%+ original content to our account, and in recent weeks has posted 100% original content. Even so, YouTube has suspended the account, either because of the small number of off the air clips we posted under fair use. We are also trying to determine if this action was taken in error due to a mistaken belief that PTV’s original coverage of congressional hearings, etc., was taken from C-SPAN or other sources, when in fact it was original content to which we of course had copyright.<snip>
Seems almost too convenient that a politically embarrassing trial is getting indepth analysis from vloggers and as if by magic the content is deemed to be in breach of C-Spans' copyright.

Thankfully PoliticsTV.com says it will have the YT video back up in a short time.

If you haven't subscribed to their channel yet I strongly recommend you do so.

4. Um, unless it's camera phone video

I don't think there's any video of the trial.

Edit to add, I just checked the video forum, and all the updates are now un-available. Looked to me like commentary, not video of the trial.

This is very F'd Up. Very much so. Freedom of speech on comments about a very important trial???

7. Someone has set up a new YT account PoliticsTelevision
they have three of the original reports so far.

Take a look at them and decide for yourself if this warrants suspension on breach of copyright rules.

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=PoliticsTelevision">PoliticsTV.com censored content available at PoliticsTelevision YT account

Nothing in their content IMO has breached fair use rules. Hopefully their content will be restored before the trial ends.

5. GOP consulting firms
have been blitzing Youtube's monitors claiming Politics TV are using copyrighted material. The usual dirty tricks, working tirelessly to bury the truth.

6. Or maybe Malkin
She's a big YouTuber, and has been known to encourage harassment of people she doesn't agree with.
