Suicide truck bomb kills 9 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide truck bomber struck a parking lot near a college in a mainly Shiite area in Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and wounding 19, police and hospital officials said.

The attack occurred about 9:50 a.m. at the College of Economic Sciences as students were arriving for class at the campus in the Iskan neighborhood in western Baghdad.

The neighborhood is largely Shiite, but the students are religiously mixed, including Shiites, Sunnis and some Christians.

Police said they also discovered a booby-trapped ambulance about 500 yards away and they were trying to defuse it.

1. And people say...
Pres. Bush is the bad guy. Isn't it a worthy cause to try and protect people from this level of violence?

2. Welcome to DU
:hi:

Were the Iraqis setting off truck bombs on a daily basis before the "coalition of the willing" arrived? I guess we just need to wait for the surge. :eyes:

"if you don't like this country then get out." I thought asking provocative questions and engaging in discussion is what this forum is about.

The level of lawless over there is crazy. When we pull out, I wouldn't be surprised if we see some extremely ruthless tactics, reminiscent of Saddam, used to restore order.

ps--thanks to those who posted welcome messages

6. Unfortunately, there are a plethora of "bad guys" in Iraq.
Bush is the bad guy that enabled the other bad guys to do their thing.

The real question to me is whether to ones bombing the markets and schools are killing Shia as part of a civil war, in which case they are unlikely to stop if we leave. Or are they bombing civilians to make us look bad as a part of a "resistance" strategy, in which case the slaughter would logically end after we withdraw.
