Argentina asks Spain to extradite Isabel Peron

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentina on Tuesday formally requested Spain extradite former President Isabel Peron as part of a probe into her alleged links to a right-wing death squad during her 1974-1976 rule, the Foreign Ministry said.
Peron, 75, was arrested by Spanish police at her home near Madrid on January 12 after an Argentine judge ordered her to return to Argentina to answer questions about the 1976 disappearance of a student activist last seen being taken into custody by state security officials.
She was released from custody but ordered to appear at a police station every 15 days. The extradition request was the next step in the process of enforcing the Argentine order that she appear for questioning.
Legal analysts say any extradition process would likely last months, if not years, since Peron is both a Spanish and Argentine citizen. She has lived in exile in Spain since 1981
