Press Release of Senator Reid

REID: THE SENATE WILL VOTE ON IRAQ THIS SATURDAY
Thursday, February 15, 2007

Washington, DC — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid today released the following statement, announcing that the Senate will vote this Saturday on whether to move forward to debate the President's escalation of the war in Iraq.

"For nearly four years, the Republican-controlled Senate stood silent on the President's flawed Iraq policies and watched as the situation deteriorated into a civil war. The American people have chosen to change course. Democrats have chosen to change course. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans have chosen obstruction. Almost every Republican who expressed concern about the escalation chose to block the Senate from debating the issue.

"Today, Democrats offered Republicans another chance for compromise, suggesting the Senate debate one resolution in favor of escalation and one resolution opposed to escalation. Once again, Senate Republicans refused.

"Democrats are determined to give our troops and the American people the debate they deserve, so the Senate will have another Iraq vote this Saturday. We will move for a clear up or down vote on the House resolution which simply calls on Congress to support the troops and opposes the escalation.

"Those Republicans who have expressed their concern over the Senate's failure to debate the war in Iraq will have another opportunity to let their actions speak louder than their words."

2. Good on ya Harry
Keep pissing off the fascist motherfuckers who think you don't have the backbone to keep fighting the good fight. Cowardly chickenshit chickenhawks having to put their beliefs on record. How sad!

I wonder if this is a bluff by Reid because would he really force Obama, Dennis, Hillary, Joe to miss this Saturday event (I wish I could remember what it is).

18. Hillary has changed her NH visits for Saturday
Time changes but she's still coming.

I don't think Reid would do anything to disrupt the Democrats who are running for President. I can't imagine that this is a bluff.

10. We need to be really careful on this.....
Don't get me wrong. Headline says Senate will vote on Iraq. Not specifically the escalation of the war or surge.

I worry because, in general, people just don't like Monday morning quaterbacks. Especially when they "voted for the use of force" in the beginning. The perception could be when things go wrong, the Dems jumped ship. Implication is Dems don't have the medal. Aren't tough....logical conclusion = are weak.

My only point is, this is a vote for/or against the escalation of the war by the Bush Admin. Against putting more troops into a fruitless fight. Dems need to tighten the message here. We just need to be careful of the message getting back to the American people.

Just my two cents.

16. A vast majority of the American people want us OUT of Iraq.
Hence the win in November.

Likewise, something like 70% of the soldiers themselves know know the war was wrong, don't support it, and want to come home.

Our opposition to this illegal war based on a pattern of lies can only strengthen us.

12. Worse, because it can become the weekend news and be brought up on Sunday and
slip over into the morning shows on Monday.

13. My thoughts exactly
Will CSPAN2 carry this on a Saturday? Will we be able to see this? CSpan confirmed the Saturday vote but I haven't heard if it will be televised. :(

19. Hillary announced on a Saturday and the weekend was hers and
hers alone. She got a lot of airplay out of that move. Hopefully Reid will get the same. Plus, Monday is a holiday, so that could also be helpful.
