Bush hopeful UN will now fall in line
Bush hopeful UN will now fall in line
By Evelyn Leopold in New York and Marian Wilkinson in Washington
December 17, 2003

The United States hopes Saddam Hussein's capture will spur the United Nations Security Council to close ranks behind American plans for the transformation of Iraq.

<snip>

"I think an affirmation or affirmations of support for the political, economic and security development of Iraq would be most welcome indeed, and most appropriate under the circumstances," the US ambassador to the UN, John Negroponte, said.

<snip>
But despite Saddam's capture, and the urging of Democratic and Republican critics, President George Bush has refused to give a date for the end of the US-led occupation, or offer any revision of America's plans for postwar Iraq.

"We will stay until the job is done," he said.

"The temptation is to try to get the President or somebody to put a timetable on the definition of getting the job done. We're just going to stay the course".

<snip>
Asked if he had a message for the former dictator he said had once tried to assassinate his father, the President replied: "Good riddance. The world is better off without you, Mr Saddam Hussein.

"I find it very interesting that when the heat got on, you dug yourself a hole and you crawled in it".

"I find it very interesting that when the heat got on, you dug yourself a hole and you crawled in it". Was he talking to Cheney?

3. "the heat got on"
What is there to say?? Aggghhh! Except I really don't see how capturing Saddam would really affect anything else-the UN, the attacks against our soldiers, debt relief. It was still an illegal attack, its an illegal occupation and bush won't share the rebuilding so....What am I missing?

11. Thought the UN was now
irrelevant?

Is it just me or is Negroponte even uglier now than he used to be? Nah...can't be...

13. Now that Jimmy the fixer is on the job
everyone is going to snap to it and fall right in line, or else. Isn't that how it works in the Mafia?

BTW: Now that W says he refuses to put a date on when the US will leave Iraq, didn't he announce a few weeks ago that we were leaving by June, 2004 and that we would only stay at the invitation of the Iraqi people? I guess we'll just start calling suicide trucks 'Welcome Wagons' and no one will be the wiser.
