Report: Hundreds of Jewish graves vandalized in Ukraine

Hundreds of Jewish graves were defiled in the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa, Interfax news agency reported Tuesday.

An unknown person or persons using spray paint and blunt objects damaged 302 final resting sites in the city's Jewish cemetery, said Dmitry Fuchedzhi, an Odessa police spokesman.

Two red swastikas were drawn on a memorial to Jews killed during German occupation of the region during 1941-44, along with the words "Congratulations on the Holocaust."

Anti-Semitism in Ukraine is uncommon but not unknown, most frequently in the form of vandalism on Jewish religious buildings, or less often as physical attacks against Jews.

4. Yes, "uncommon" as it is "uncommon" here, too...

that is occurs at all is too sad...

but that is ALSO happen in the Ukraine, as here, and many other countries, is hardly surprising...

Hence it is "uncommon" - hardly a daily, weekly or yearly occurance - or in other words - "uncommon"...

What part are you having a problem with? Or do you really believe that this type of behaviour occurs there more frequently than in your own backyard of "amerikkka"?

I would not be alive today or living in the U.S. My Mom's side of the family emigrated to the U.S. after the Czars basically threw them out. I don't know about anti-semitism as it exists today, but almost everyone with family from that area is here due to the existence of virulent anti-semitism.

3. Replace "Urkraine" with "Amerikkka" and it would be also be an issue here...

It has occurred regularly here, and too many other countries for many years...

That the Ukraine is also not immune from these individuals just as the USA and many countries are subject to them, is hardly surprising...

The last time this type of vandalizm has occurred here was news too...

5. Ukraine's history

along with most of Eastern Europe with regards to Antisemitism is unique however. It looks like Eastern European attitudes regarding Jews has not changed much - or nearly enough over the last sixty years.

sorry, but your notions don't wash, unless you're trying to say that other places put millions of Jews to their deaths - that only happened in Germany and Russia.

Ukraine was never an independant country until recently - it was a part of Russia, Poland, Austro-Hungarian Empire respectively, not necessarily in that order...

I am speeking strictly of anti-semitism here...
