Viewers Prefer Hilton Show Over Bush Interview
"He's bigger than Whoopi, but no match for Paris

The Nielsen company that does the television ratings finds that more people watched "The Simple Life" on Fox than watched President George W. Bush's interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC -- just a couple of days after Saddam Hussein was caught"

more http://www.nbc5.com/irresistible/2714025/detail.html?z=dp&dpswid=1260382&dppid=65193

I couldn't watch either, but I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad?

1. Although it warms my heart to see that not many people want to
watch the asshole, I agree that it is pathetic that so many people are tuning in to that vapid crap.

4. Actually, I rather like the vapid crap.
I'm a scientist. I spend my day thinking. I read Foucault and George Lakoff at night before bed.

In between, I need an hour of vapid crap in the evening.

22. Gameshows from the
eighties.

Remember "Card Sharks"- the contestants would always give these really long, detailed reasons why they thought forty percent of women prefer bars of soap that float while they're taking a bath, or why the feel sixty-two percent of children put more than two spoonfuls of sugar on their cereal in the morning, and I would wonder, "why bother?"

That's vapid.

2. Talked to someone today... clueless absolutely clueless...
They are hopeless about the country and the world and don't want any part of it...period.

I wonder how many have their heads in the sand vs how many support * ? Wondering also if the worse it gets the more people will turn their heads because they don't want to face up to what is going on.. avoidance and it will go away if you don't look at it too close :(

3. The Simple Life is pretty funny
I only seen it once though, but most people are like me. When they watch tv they want to be entertained and watching a President be interviewed can be pretty boring. I would much rather watch the Simple Life then the Shrub Interview.

18. or making those two guys kiss in order to kiss them
at first I thought I would hate it, but I think the show makes a rather interesting social observation of the gap between rural and urban existance.

28. I love that show :)
It *kills* me that the Grandma is called Curly, and when they went to deliver the dog-eaten pie, they're wondering where to go and one of them says "Just look for Curly's hair"---

That show cracks me up. I'm not a fan of celebrities or anything of that nature, but this show rocks, and you're right--it is an interesting social observation.

I love how whenever they get in trouble they're like 'oh no!!!' and go hide---

And those girls seem really nice. I read an interview where both Paris and Nicole admitted that alot of their 'ignorance' (not knowing what Walmart was, not knowing what TacoBell was' was purely an act, which I believe. They seem like they really like the family that they're with, and are just having a good time out in the country.

5. Bad I would say
A less informed public is easier to scare/control I would think. At least if people showed some interest in their country, there might be hope of rousing them to action.

7. I wouldn't say bad
I get my source of information from the internet, not TV. The only reason why I have a tv is for entertainment purposes only, I was watching Comedy Central during the Bush interview last night. But sometimes when I read on DU like '"The O'reilly factor" is a must see, O'reilly gets hammered by his guest' or something like that I will turn it to a 24 hour news channel but only for a good laugh. But I don't think watching a Bush interview will make you more informed then you already are.

9. I think it would be amusing...
to make a fake porno with * and Diane Sawyer - need to use night-vision camera shots.

This might boost *'s ratings!

Tut-tut

12. Maybe but the Prez is phony too
and I think that family is cute when they get embarassed at the things those girls say. It was sure funny last night when the one went chasing the other with the hand she had stuck in the animal. They were acting just like 8 year olds and it was just funny as hell.

16. Have been off-line for over a month!!
Anyone have discussion threads to Bush's PR (oops) press conference?

Also have not seen TV, so need to get the news from DU. Did the Plame thing die down and get buried?

BBV FINALLY GOT AN EDITORIAL in the local rag, so I know it's still simmering. Is DK's bill to take away voting from private companies getting any press?

catch me up, quickly, ladies and gents. Post some good threads.

21. I do, too! We even had dinner an hour late as a result.
I refused to watch. So, my partner watched in another room while I prepared dinner in the kitchen with a movie from HBO playing.

Later, he told me how disappointing the interview was! Junior was a total disaster. I said, "I told you so!!"

:-)
