Lead Singer Of Boston Dies

POSTED: 6:20 pm EST March 9, 2007
UPDATED: 7:40 pm EST March 9, 2007

BOSTON (AP) -- Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55.

Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

13. Oh shit.
I knew Brad. One of the sweetest, nicest guys in the music business. Just wonderful. Last time I saw him, it had been 10 years since I last saw him. He looked at me, called me by my name and started talking to me like he just saw me yesterday.

Goddamn crying shame.

Mr. Delp definitely had a set of pipes, which have now been silenced way too prematurely.

Rest in peace, sir.

25. In the mid-to-late '70s, Boston's music was ubiquitous on my college campus.
You could hear their music pouring out of half the dorm rooms on campus ... including mine. Listening to the "Boston" CD always takes me back to my youth.

RIP Brad.

35. Only Brad Delp...
...could sing in a band as huge and successful as Boston, but still appear to be held back from his full potential. If God has a voice, I'm sure it would be the voice of Brad Delp.

Rock in Peace, bro...

37. My 12 y.o. son loves them
I hadn't really paid attention to them when I was younger, but my son plays their music on his guitar all the time. They transformed him to a fan of classic rock in addition to his taste for alternative. It makes it more enjoyable to hear the jamming coming up from the basement.

RIP

38. Part of that quintessential Rock sound of the 70's...
I have been pondering for a while now the concept of Rock and Roll and it's evolution.

And I have come to the conclusion that the 1970's prior to disco and Punk was the pinnacle of the real Rock and Roll sound. These amazing bands with these amazing singers, lived that life we all dreamed about growing up.

they were musicians, they had voices, they had that rock and roll style. They had the women, they had the drugs but they also had the sound.

Boston will, to me, always be remembered as maybe or maybe not, THE band with that sound or feeling or expression, but they were part of a culture that rose to the highest point in Rock.

Boston was part of an influence that although powerful at times, also worked on a very subtle level.

When I listen to certain bands today, something is missing. I feel they are striving to be something they aren't or could never be. It's more than likely my age talking, perhaps that intrinsic value that I pull from that era of music has more to do with the time in my life that I listened and enjoyed that music rather than then the music being part of a ground breaking sound.

Naaaa. Boston Kicked Ass.
