Brownback supports Pace's remark on gays
Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback (news, bio, voting record) is backing the Pentagon's top general over his remarks that homosexuality is immoral.

The Kansas senator planned to send a letter on Thursday to President Bush supporting Marine Gen. Peter Pace, who earlier this week likened homosexuality to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs also said: "I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts."

Lawmakers of both parties criticized the remarks, but Brownback's letter called the criticism "both unfair and unfortunate."

"We should not expect someone as qualified, accomplished and articulate as General Pace to lack personal views on important moral issues," Brownback said. "In fact, we should expect that anyone entrusted with such great responsibility will have strong moral views."

Asked whether he agreed with Pace's comments, Brownback said: "I do not believe being a homosexual is immoral, but I do believe homosexual acts are. I'm a Catholic and the church has clear teachings on this."

3. Yeah, well if there's one thing Republicans know about, it's ADULTERY.
Just ask Guiliani. Or Gingrich. Hell, even a cancer striken wife doesn't stop Newt from getting laid by some office slut.

The Republicans are just so disgusting.

4. the Catholic Church also has clear teachings on premarital sex and birth control
Does Brownback think we should be discharging any member of the armed services found with a condom or birth control pills or who admits to having engaged in pre-marital sex?

Gonna be a really small, really ugly, really stupid army.

18. don't forget "really frustrated." Troops have it hard enough, for God's sake, let them screw.
...and screw often, and screw whomever they choose to (consentually, of course). It is the least we can do.

Do you hate our troops, Sen. Browneye?

26. Bingo!
And it's not just the Army, either. Hasn't Brownback ever heard the phrase "The fleet's in?"

I think it was Frances Langford who reported that every time she sang "I'm in the Mood for Love" to the troops during World War II, some guy would holler out, "Sister, you've come to the right place."

9. Real shocker...He's a fellow idiot biggot.
I will never understand how conservatives are looked up to. They are generally unhappy, very poorly informed, angry, have strange decision making skills, are hateful of change or difference, and generally cope poorly with the world around them (collecting piles of money in a sociopathic way not withstanding).

To me, when I speak face to face with a Republican, I feel sad and sorry for them. They will not allow themselves to see ANYTHING different in a positive way, seem sad, don't know what is going on, and seem distrustful of much of what the world has to offer.

Frankly, I am not sure anyone would aspire to modern 'conservatism' for any other reason than hate, fear, greed or any other negative ism. It doesn't seem to satisfy any other type of need.

And a question.

Is American Conservatism the American version of Baathists? No one REALLY follows the doctrine in their own lives, but they belong for social and financial advancement. In today's America, if you don't pretend to be a moron wingnut, you can't keep your job in the government (at any sort of high level) and often face discrimination in the workplace in the private sphere. And no one really follows the dogma.

more red meat for his "base."

I think they refer to core supporters as a "base" because those are usually the hardcore knuckleheads that need it kept base-ic for them to understand.

Holy god, I'm sick of hearing this from adult human beings when they explain why they believe something.

Of course, I realize it's too much to ask an empty suit like Brownback to think for himself.

28. Popw John Paul II warned Bush and Blair that if they went into Iraq they would do so without G_d
I want Brownback to immediately call for a total US troops withdrawal from Iraq as fast as we can fly the troops home. I also want Brownback to speak in support of Church teaching against the death penalty, torture, rendition, and violations of human rights, not to mention endorse doing something about global warming to protect the planet that G_d has made us stewards over.
