Bush and Congress at odds over Iraq war

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Iraq war lumbered into its fifth year Monday with
President Bush pleading for patience to let his revised battle plan work and Congress' new Democratic leaders retorting that no patience remains.

"The new strategy will need more time to take effect," Bush said in remarks televised from the White House to mark the four years since he ordered the invasion. He challenged Congress to send him a war funding bill "without strings and without delay."

He got a swift response from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record).

"The American people have lost confidence in President Bush's plan for a war without end in Iraq," said Pelosi, D-Calif. "That failed approach has been rejected by the voters in our nation and it will be rejected by the Congress."

2. jr really made some threats today. According to the decider, unless
we toe the line and keep up the fight in Iraq, the arabs are going to keep all the gas & launch nukes at the homeland at their pleasure.
I don't believe his sorry Connecticut/texas ass.

3. Fund Cutting
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 11:33 PM by thekuch
The ONLY WAY our troops have ever come home since the inception of the War Powers Act has been by virtue of Congress CUTTING FUNDS to those military actions....against the incumbent President's will, I may add.........btw, cutting funds to those actions DID NOT HARM THE TROOPS!!!

The very notion is absurd and a cheap ploy.....I'm shocked so many people go for the banana-in-the-tailpipe routine.........

4. Nancy sets herself up
1. She should stand her ground on cutting the war funds now. She is absolutely correct when she says that the nation has lost confidence in Bush and that Bush plan is rejected by voters. Sending funds with stipulations and timelines is not the answer it delays the inevitable and gives fodder to the critics of the Dems on why they would fund something that they are going to eventually pull back from. Get the troops out now. Reasonably this would have a positive impact for the region. America is not listening to Bush. Democrats need to stand up and take the lead.
