Governor Kathleen Blanco told a statewide television audience that she won't run for reelection this fall.

Blanco said she was making the announcement, nine months before she would be scheduled to step down, in order to keep politics out of a bold agenda she plans to present during the upcoming legislative session.

Blanco said she had devoted "every waking hour" to the state's recovery since the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.

"I'm proud to have set the bar high when it comes to economic development and education," she in the televised address.

1. Well, chalk this one up as out of our column.
Although if she is impressive over what's left of her term, and can make the case that she stepped aside so she could be effective, she might be a viable Senate candidate in 2010 against Vitter.

9. Anti-Breaux TV Ads
have been very effective. The latest claims that John Breaux is no longer legally eligible to run for the governors office b/c he registered as a voter in Maryland last year. The ad also shows an aerial view of his maryland masion that the ad contends was paid for with lobbying dollars. I first noticed the ad about a week ago...paid for by...guess who?

4. Got any Dem candidates ready to step in?
besides Breaux: I can hear the repuke howls of "But he lives in Maryland!" all the way out here.

The recovery effort is pathetic enough as it is. I'd hate to even imagine what it would turn into under a Gov. Jindal :puke: Nothing but a means to further enrich the corporations would be my guess.

Sebelius Thanks Blanco, Vows to Support Democratic Candidate

WASHINGTON, March 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic Governors
Association Chair Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius this evening issued the
following statement in response to Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux
Blanco's announcement that she will not seek re-election.

"The Democratic governors and I thank Governor Blanco for more than
twenty years of public service. She has done a remarkable job in the face
of incredible odds and some of the most trying times in the history of the
United States.

"Governor Blanco's decision puts Louisiana's people above politics, a
principle she has practiced for decades. Her priority on continuing the
recovery efforts, free from personal politics, again demonstrates her
willingness to make selfless decisions on behalf of her constituents.

"In the coming months, Democrats will work with the governor to support
her efforts to rebuild. We look forward to supporting a strong Democratic
candidate, who has what it takes to continue rebuilding the state and fight
to expand opportunities for all of its citizens."

12. I disagree with that
Breaux is not by any means CLOSE to being my favorite Democrat, but the prospect of Jindal advancing politically frightens me to death.

11. Subject: 2 out of 3 executives responsible for Katrina mess still in power

1. Bush M/LIHOP and did nothing afterwards. Oh, wait. He had a great photo-op
2. Blanco didn't know how to play with the big boys
3. Nagin had a meltdown and fouled up the followup

None of them deserve to be in office - along with a bunch of other screw-ups.

Not John Breaux. Not Bobby Jindal.

Maybe Mitch Landrieu. He may be the only one who can bridge the racial divide.
