Lets hope this doesn't turn into a multi-month, much less a multi-year hostage crisis and that all the captured soldiers are shortly released unharmed.

3. Captured Female U.K. Sailor Shown on Iran TV Wearing Headscarf
Edited on Wed Mar-28-07 12:22 PM by bemildred
March 28 (Bloomberg) -- A female U.K. sailor who was among a group of Britons seized by Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf was shown on Iranian television today.

Faye Turney, 26, wearing a headscarf and smoking, said her group had ``obviously trespassed'' into Iranian waters before their capture on March 23. The Iranians had been ``friendly and hospitable'' and had shown no aggression, she said.

Turney was among eight British sailors and seven Marines taken. Other members of the group were shown in the footage eating after their capture. The video was aired by Al-Alam, a Tehran-based Arabic language news channel.

4. undoubtedly a voluntary confession
The lone female British sailor, detained with 14 male sailors and marines by Iran last week, has written a letter to her parents "admitting" that her crew entered into Iranian waters, according to a letter released by the Iranian government.

The letter was handed to the British ambassador in Tehran on Wednesday.

An Iranian television station also broadcast the first video of Faye Turney, in which she smoked a cigarette as she spoke with someone off camera. She wore a black scarf covering her head.

The video also showed some of the other British detainees eating. All appeared to be in good health.

The letter said she regretted entering Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf.

"We were out in the boats when we were arrested by Iranian forces as we had apparently gone into Iranian waters. I wish we hadn't because then I'd be home with you all right now. I am so sorry we did, because I know we wouldn't be here now if we hadn't," the letter released by Iran said.

5. Yep, no doubt she just had a burning need to get it off her chest.
:sarcasm:

My heart goes out to her for the shitstorm she is about to endure over this.

6. Iran TV shows female navy captive
Source: BBC News

Iranian state television has broadcast an interview with captured British female sailor Faye Turney and footage of the 14 servicemen seized with her.

Leading Seaman Turney, 26, said they had been seized in the Gulf because "obviously we trespassed" in Iranian waters - something the UK disputes.

She said her captors had been friendly and the 15 personnel were unharmed.

The circumstances of the filming are not known. The Foreign Office said the footage was "completely unacceptable".

7. I wonder what old Tony is thinking right about now. One of the
intended targets of his buddy george decided to go on the offensive. I suppose that not being under crippling sanctions for 20 years would make one a little uppity when being threatened by the two biggest criminal administrations the US and Britian have ever had to tolerate.

8. 'name rank serial number' isn't the modern tactic
Part of the (US) military training if you become captured suggests cooperation under certain circumstances. If saying "Oh yes, we're evil" on camera keeps you alive, go right ahead.

12. That's not "new" advice - despite what TV movies dictate.
It's been advised since the early days of Vietnam for POWs to hold out on time sensitive information OR provide disinformation for 24 hours. I conducted a literature review of torture tactics on Vietnam POWs while I was and undergraduate (late 70s).

This is not new advice but the Media has failed to educate the American Public.

Big surprise? :eyes:

of torture. Heaven knows we've set a horrible precedent.

After what we did in Abu Graib and are still doing at GITMO ... we have lost ALL moral authority, i.e., the USA.

14. Iran TV shows captured sailors
IRAN has shown the first pictures of 15 detained British navy personnel after Britain froze contacts between the two in an escalating dispute over the captives.

Britain angrily condemned the images of the eight sailors and seven marines shown by Iranian television which showed the only woman among them apparently admitting that the group had trespassed into Iranian waters.

Iran said Faye Turney, 26, would soon be released but there was no easing of tensions between London and Tehran over the crisis now almost one week old.

The footage included pictures of Ms Turney in a black headscarf and a letter she had written to her family.

It was NOT a humiliating video of these troops but a scan of them eating a meal.

16. Let's wait and see what happens.
The video is nice in that it shows they are (more or less) OK. It will be nice if they get to go home. It will also be nice if these people are not made into political footballs in a dispute between governments, but that may be too much to expect.

Iran Shows Video of Captured British Sailors, London Denounces Move

By NASSER KARIMI

TEHRAN, Iran Mar 28, 2007 (AP)— Iran aired a video Wednesday of 15 captured
British sailors and marines, showing the only woman captive saying her group
had "trespassed" in Iranian waters. Britain angrily denounced the video as
unacceptable and froze most dealings with the mideast nation.

As the standoff escalated, the Iranian foreign minister backed off a prediction
that the femaile sailor could be freed Wednesday or Thursday, but said British
officials would be allowed to meet with detained service personnel.
