Bush Accuses Dems Of Meddling
Source: CBS/AP

(CBS/AP) President Bush accused congressional Democrats on Wednesday of meddling in Iraq war policy and setting a deadline for a U.S. pullout that would have disastrous repercussions for both countries.

As the Senate resumed debate on a bill containing a spring 2008 timetable for bringing American troops home, Mr. Bush argued again that such a step would result in a needless delay of funds for troops. But Democrats are insisting that he'll have to accept some sort of timeline to get the money.

"Why doesn't he get real with what's going on with the world?" Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after Mr. Bush's speech. "We're not holding up funding in Iraq and he knows that. Why doesn't he deal with the real issues facing the American people?"

Mr. Bush said Wednesday that the Democratic strategy move will not force him to negotiate. He said again that he would veto any funding legislation that includes a withdrawal timeline.

8. The Cheerleader-in-Chief is pulling out all the stops
"If we cannot muster the resolve to defeat this evil in Iraq, America will have lost its moral purpose in the world and we will endanger our citizens," the president said. "If we leave Iraq before the job is done, the enemy will follow us here."

Maybe Americans aren't always terminally ignorant sheep. But he's counting on it.

14. I love it when bush accuses other people of doing things that will have "disasterous repercussions."
The irony is spectacular. Although I have to give him this: he's got more experience with disasterous repercussions than anybody in recent history.

24. policing the world = patriotism..
an exit strategy = meddling

Republicans want a philosophy without logic, a house with no foundation, and patriotism without sacrifice. Where will Bush go next?

he can veto and veto, but that doesn't produce a budget that will pass in Congress or generate support for the war. :eyes:

25. Wow, does he look panicky in that picture?
And desperate?

I notice the Dem leaders are treating him like a bratty five-year-old (a not too bright five-year-old):

Pelosi Calm down with the threats. There is a new Congress in town

Reid: "We're not holding up funding in Iraq and he knows that. Why doesn't he deal with the real issues facing the American people?"

Shades of Boxer to Inhofe: "I want to talk to you for just a minute."

26. Veto? Or signing statement?
Might he just issue a signing statement rejecting the deadline and not veto the bill? That would seem more his style, since he's issued lots of those and very few, if any, vetoes. Hopefully Congress has considered that possibility.
