Goree Island Bush Visit Sparks Anger ("We were shut up like sheep")
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030708/pl_nm/bush_africa_anger_dc_1

"We understand that you have to have security measures, since September 11, but to dump us in another place...? We had to leave at 6 a.m. I didn't have time to bathe, and the bread did not arrive," the father-of-four said.

"We were shut up like sheep," said 15-year-old Mamadou.

Many residents compared Bush's hour-long visit unfavorably to the island tour by former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) in 1998.

"When Clinton came, he shook hands, people danced," said former Mayor Urbain Alexandre Diagne.

4. 1st amendment zones wherever he goes
:(

The cooped-up residents were not impressed.

"It's slavery all over again," fumed one father-of-four, who did not want to give his name. "It's humiliating. The island was deserted."

White House officials said the decision to remove the locals was taken by Senegalese authorities. But there was no doubt who the residents blamed.

"We never want to see him come here again," said N'diaye, hiking her loose gown onto her shoulders with a frown.

this ickly demon is not our leader - I wish they would quit trying to pass him off as such.

27. I've given up on my attempted shameless bribes to other countries
Obviously, US$138.62 (plus Air Force One, plus Barney, plus three bags of Rold Gold Pretzels, plus matching funds from a few people around here) just isn't worth it to any self-respecting country in the world. Hey, I tried. If I ever find a job, I might be able to up the ante to a nice, round $200, but I don't even know if that'll do it...

Isn't this the same dog that has to be carried everywhere because he refuses to remain by *'s side? Who won't come when dimson calls him? Who, when his "master" was on the floor unconscious and twitching, just sat there and looked at him? Who didn't sound the alarm; um...woof...he's, uh...choking over here...woof?

14. it just infuriates me
How can they just go to a place and find people in their houses and ask them to drop everything and leave. Because the "president" of the US is scheduled to give a speech in their area of the city. This is deplorable, and very much tactless, if not unconstitutional. You don't force people to leave their houses just for the sake of security. You can block streets, yes, do anything yoyu want with PUBLIC property, but NOT FORCE PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR HOUSES!

15. an urban island just in the bay of Dakar.....
The thing is Goree is not just "an island", it make it sound like some deserted, remote place. Goree is one of the neighborhoods in the city of Dakar. It is a normal, urban place, with families and workers, schools and all, very densely populated I may add. And they felt the need and justification to ask the teh residents being forced out. That's insane.

20. When Clinton was prez my company stock was $30, we had 12 hours
a day 7 days a week OT available AND were getting 8-10K profit sharing per year. Stock is $10, OT is down 80% and profit sharing has vanished and we've got 100's on layoff! We've been fucking bushwhacked! And in the midst of all this prosperity, an NRA cartoon on the wall of Clinton shaking his finger supposedly saying "Only 2 more years to get your guns!". This was half way thru the 2nd term. Of course my way to get these idiots going now is, " Man, I sure did have a lot more $ when Der Slickmeister was getting those hummers!" The only thing that warms my heart is that these overtime whores that didn't see their families for 20 years now have to work 10+MORE years just to recover what they've lost since chimpy took over. In my plant the older union workers now vote Repug for 3 reasons; guns#1, abortion, and blow jobs(or lack thereof). These assholes have taken their union's hard fought past and current assault by the gop for granted, truly discouraging.

22. Last time he came to Kennebunkport...
One of my sister's co-workers' daughters was getting married that Saturday and her reception was planned for a local hotel (Colony Inn, I think). Days before the weekend the father was contacted by Secret Service and told the reception would have to be moved because the SS needed the room for their command post. In return, the government provided - at no cost to the family (sarcasm intended) - a tent on the lawn for the reception.

I'd have been so royally pissed if it was my wedding. I would have refused. And if for some reason I had to move, you can bet everyone in the state would know about it!

Hate and discontent wherever he goes, I swear.

"Memunatu, six other children and two adults who lost limbs in the African nation's bloody civil war enjoyed the picnic, which took place to raise money for their plight.

The little girl was unfazed as Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y), descended rock-star-like on the event, signing autographs and posing for photographers.

'I told her to sit on Hillary's lap,' said Webber, whom the girl calls Aunty Cathy. 'But she said, 'I want the man'
