1. I was thinking it would be some time before more Senate republicans came around
if this continues to deteriorate, we could have enough votes to over-ride a veto on withdrawal by the end of the year

4. They are doing what I would do...
Attack the police now so they can attack the softer targets later. Keep the police demoralized and understaffed and paranoid. The police make mistakes that get innocent people killed, and more people start to hate them and want to strike back.

Not to mention, in this attack they are destroying the ability of the police to go after organized militias, compile and process evidence, and perform forensic analysis.

This is simply terrible all round. Thank got that truck didn't have some chlorine or something in it.

I wonder how long until they start mixing tar or napalm with the truck bombs?

You could apply the same logic to those lines of students trying to get through high-school metal detectors. "Moral panics" often times create more problems than they solve.

BTW, if you want to read a book that will keep you up at nights, read "The Enemy Within" by Larry Bond

Car Parked in Baghdad Garage Explodes, Killing at
Least 3 People and Wounding 10

By KIM GAMEL

BAGHDAD Apr 2, 2007 (AP)— A car parked in a garage exploded Monday in Baghdad,
killing at least three people and wounding 10, police said. The blast took place
about 10 a.m. near a governmental property registration agency in Baiyaa, an area
with a mixed population of Sunnis and Shiites in western Baghdad. Police said five
cars and nearby buildings also were damaged.

The area has been a frequent target of suspected Sunni insurgents who apparently
have stepped up their campaign of bombings in a bid to derail a 7-week-old U.S.-
Iraqi security plan.

BAGHDAD, April 2 (Reuters) - The bodies of 19 civilians kidnapped by gunmen
at a fake checkpoint north of Baghdad were found on Monday, Iraqi police and
hospital sources said.

They said all had been shot in the head and chest in one of the biggest mass
kidnappings in months.

Gunmen kidnapped the civilians, men from a Shi'ite village near the city of
Baquba, after stopping cars at a fake checkpoint on Sunday. The bodies were
found not far from Baquba, which lies 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad.

Gunmen also kidnapped 14 policemen near Baquba, the provincial capital of
Diyala province, a month ago. They were later found dead. Diyala is home
to Shi'ites, Sunni Arabs and Kurds and has been the scene of relentless
bloodshed.

9. Now cut that out!
You people are making it sound like you can't walk freely around Iraq, and that directly contradicts Senator Straight Talk, Maverick Johnny hisself. All these explosions and dead bodies are just trying to embarrass him, so cut it out, okay?

BAGHDAD, April 2, 2007

(CBS/AP) A suicide truck bomber, his deadly payload hidden under bags of flour,

Bombings elsewhere in Iraq killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 40,
and police found the bodies of at least 35 victims of sectarian killings. The 21
bodies discovered in Baqouba, about 50 miles north of the capital, were believed
to have been Shiite workers grabbed from three minibuses stopped at illegal Sunni
insurgent checkpoints near the violent city. Baghdad police said they found
14 corpses, most tortured and killed execution style; all were thought to be
