For Connecticut Governor, Questions Veer Into Unknown
For Connecticut Governor, Questions Veer Into Unknown
By MARC SANTORA and MIKE McINTIRE

HARTFORD, Dec. 20 — Amid the storm surrounding (Republican) Gov. John G. Rowland's admission that he had made false statements about free work done on his cottage by people seeking to do business with the state, it was time for Mr. Rowland's senior staff members to sit down and ask the governor the question on everyone's mind.

Is there anything else out there that we need to worry about?

"I don't know," Mr. Rowland told them in a closed-door strategy session last week.

1. this is some story
I heard an NPR accounting of how the Rowlands (and in particular Mrs. Rowland) has lashed out at the Hartford Courant, which has done a massive amount of work to uncover this scandal. The NPR interview was with the reporter from the Courant, who handled the allegations in a professional manner.

Mrs. Rowland composed a bizarre "Night Before Christmas" poem which was read at a press conference. It was so typically Republican, basically amounting to "don't criticize my husband for taking money; he's lived his life for the public good. Yeah, right, and Dick Cheney is a "loyal public servant."

Its amazing. His staff PLEADED AND BEGGED HER not to read it. But no, John and Patty (whom he has assaulted) LOVED the idea.

Now its gonna cost him. Tick off the paper thats running the investigation...thats REAL smart!

This administration has been living my sig line since 1995.

5. Rowland spouse-abuse story...
The Waterbury, CT police sealed the records of the following 'alleged' incident before Rowland's 'election' so the following story has no 'proof'. (LOL, can you imagine if this was a Democrat? The police report would be on Drudge for six days!!)

Rowland's ex-wife was grabbing onto the railing to the basement stairs, and he was trying to push her down the flight of stairs. The police were called, and a report was filed. This has been a rumor circulating in CT for years, as people did have access to the police report.

I know someone who worked with someone who worked w. his ex-wife, and VERIFIED that as the truth... but, it's only third-hand.

Again, if this was a Democrat, the spouse-abuse story would have been the lead on Drudge, MSNBC, Faux, etc.. and the Democrat would never have been elected.

4. When it first got bad
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 01:10 AM by zls44
When he was rumored to have assaulted his stepson from her previous marriage because he came out as being gay, not to mention her moving out of the governor's mansion, there was a rumor that he was gonna get an ambassadorship.

I think my mom summed up the state's feelings perfectly with her deadpan upon hearing the news:

"Where, Afghanistan!" (spoken optomisitically)
