On liberal campus, College Republicans fold (have no money)
Source: AP

April 6, 2007
BURLINGTON, Vt. --A student Republican club at the University of Vermont has folded, its undoing sealed by financial problems that included payment of a speaker's fee to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

The College Republicans took out a $7,000 loan from the Student Government Association to help pay the fee for the October 2005 speech by Gingrich. The club failed to repay the loan for more than a year, and after several warnings was decertified last month by the Student Government Association.

Gingrich's fee for the speech was never revealed.
Now, the College Democrats and International Socialist Organization are the dominant political groups on a campus long perceived as left of center, leaving conservatives on campus without an ideological home.

Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 01:03 PM by BOSSHOG
Not paying your bills. Classic display of integrity.

If a campus is dedicated to learning and provoking thought it always will be a liberal campus.

If you want to be a young republican you don't need a liberal education you just need an abramoff education (and pass on military service as well.) Grow up to lie, cheat, steal and be good at corporate crime. Not too many criminals need much of an education, just look who supports the gop.

AND TO THINK THEY GOT FUCKED BY AN IMMORAL SACK OF SHIT. Way to go newty.

4. What a biased headline from AP. "On liberal campus" bullshit
The University of Vermont is not one of those fundie far right universities so the AP labels it liberal.

To the AP either it is black or white, GOP or Dem, Conservative or radical far left.

The University of Vermont is just a run of the mill everyday university.

7. What the heck is the university lending them money for anyway?
It's especially ridiculous to lend money to a group like that, which absolves it's members of any personal responsibility for the loan.

If they had any decency or sense of personal responsibility, they would work themselves to pay it off, so the university should not expect repayment, ever.

18. True, but the university funds the student government association.
The point is, they were lending money to a group that had no personal responsibility for paying it back. The 'group' in this case will just reorganize under a different name and skip out on their debt.

14. Borrow & Spend republics have driven America toward the poor house
Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 01:35 PM by SpiralHawk
The republics love to call themselves "conservatives."

But NO WAY.

They are radicals, and spend like drunken soldiers.

They conserve nothing, not the budget, not ethics, not the environment.

Republics are dangerous and unprincipled radicals.

17. Look for a financial savior to step in
Colleges have been training grounds for Republican hatchetmen at least since the days of Donald Segretti, dirty trickster for the Nixon administration, and has continued through the odious likes of Lee Atwater, Floyd Brown and Karl Rove. For the paltry sum of $7,000, some well-heeled fascist will bail out these young Republicans, who will swear an oath of fealty to flat taxes, personal responsibility, and the end of personal welfare (for everyone else).

If you don't have a plan to make $7,000 back, don't borrow that money. That's a whole lot of money to spend so frivolously.
