Flight canceled after pilot curses at passengers
Source: CNN

Northwest Airlines canceled a flight with 180 passengers aboard after the pilot began cursing at passengers while the plane was being prepared for takeoff in Las Vegas on Friday, airline officials and witnesses said.

The cancellation disrupted Easter travel plans for many of the passengers.

From the moment the captain stepped aboard Flight 1190 to Detroit, passengers reported hearing him use "animated" language while talking on his cell phone, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told CNN.

"He was having a fit, swearing up a storm," a passenger on the flight said. "He was saying 'F this' and 'F that.'"

When confronted about it by passengers, the pilot became "obscene" and began cursing at the customers, she said. "He made a big disturbance."

1. Weren't they thinking of arming pilots at one point?
That certainly would've added an extra level of intrigue to this incident.

3. I don't think I would want to fly with a pilot as angry as ......
he seemed to be. When you're that angry you lose concentration.

13. I wouldn't want to fly with him, either. Could've been having it out with his wife, or something.
What if he was angry enough to do something worse than cussing? Nope, lack of emotional control is not a characteristic I'd want in my pilot.

5. As a former addiction counselor ...
I have to bring up the possibility of "withdrawal."

Swearing endlessly seems a little out of character for an Airline Pilot.

11. I dunno. I've never had any addictions, and I sure have my days
where the swearing gets pretty endless. Though I have to admit those are usually the days when I get bitten and then have to cancel surgeries and then a slew of deranged new clients come in all at once..............

12. Yes, it is merely a consideration. We all have "our days" and let's hope when
those horrid mood-swing days happen to an Airline Pilot that he/she has the option of calling in sick? :hi:

8. That's why I would want to be a FedEx pilot
so that the load in the rear can't squawk. Just quiet inert objects. If I swore at the freight, I would get no reply.

10. I agree, it was totally inappropriate for the pilot to be acting like that
in a place he could be overheard by the public. My guess is taht he was talking to his wife, and they don't have a really happy marriage right now. However, Ihave to wonder what the passanger said to him? Was it really any of the passanger's business?

I can imagine MY reaction if I was on a personal call, bitching up a storm, and someone said something like "I don't have to be subject to language like that!" As a person already angry, I don't think my response to the outsider would be too nice either!
