Wolfowitz cites confidentiality in World Bank probe
By Lesley Wroughton

WASHINGTON, April 9 (Reuters) - World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said he would protect the confidentiality of employee records as the institution's board investigated the promotion of a staffer he is romantically involved with.

Wolfowitz told the bank's staff in an e-mail on Monday that he would ensure the board has access to the facts in the case "in a manner that also respects the bank's rules concerning the right of every staff member to the confidentiality of his or her records."

A copy of the letter was obtained by Reuters.

The board, made up of representatives of the bank's 185 member countries, on Friday called for a probe into whether the promotion of the female staffer, Shaha Riza, possibly violated the bank's staff rules.

The bank's staff association last week questioned Riza's promotion. She had been given an external bank assignment to the U.S. State Department in September 2005, when her involvement with Wolfowitz was made public.

2. Assuming nepotism is frowned upon at World Bank
It is possible that it has suddenly dawned upon the boardmembers of the World Bank from 185 countries that their president was a leading architect of the spectacular Iraq catastrophe, and they are looking for a quick way to get rid of him.

3. Do They Really Need To Go Through This?
Because trying to shame a Bushbot into quitting isn't likely to work. It takes a Congressional subpeona or threat of jail, or something like that.

6. I don't know anything about World Bank
I don't know whether the board members are allowed to vote on deposing their president. They must have some kind of collective power they could use though.
