Bush sees 'amazing' gains in border enforcement

By ROBERT PEAR
New York Times

YUMA, ARIZ. — President Bush said Monday that tougher enforcement and a new fence at the Mexican border had sharply reduced the influx of illegal immigrants, and he pressed Congress to pass a sweeping revision of the nation's immigration laws.

"It's amazing progress that's been made," Bush said on a return visit to a section of the border that he inspected 11 months ago.

In the last six months, the White House said, Border Patrol reports showed that apprehensions of illegal immigrants along the Mexican border fell by 30 percent, to 418,184, from 594,142 in the comparable period a year earlier.

In the Yuma sector, which spans parts of Arizona and California, apprehensions fell by 68 percent to 25,217, from 79,131 in the comparable period a year earlier.

(I did several searches and didn't find this here)

This is such ridiculous spin, it almost getting sad. "...Apprehensions of 'illegal immigrants' along the Mexican border fell by 30 percent..." is "amazing progress" to Dim-Son. Yeah, Right!
Just like how IRS Tax Audit falling from 4% of all returns to less than 1% since Bush was installed means that fewer people are cheating on their Taxes now.

5. Bush should be careful
immigration was going to be their issue for the 2008 elections. Too much success too soon could be bad for the neocons - but good for us!

Has the fence been built yet? I guess I haven't been keeping up.

6. No, not really. The Congress only approved enough money for 700 miles of fencing
This is on a 2100 mile long boarder, so there are a quite a few areas where there will be no fence or physical barriers at all. This is totally bogus PR B*llSh*t spin.

Apprehensions are down because the crossers have moved to other parts of the border, out of view of the T.V. Cameras.
