"Girls Gone Wild" creator in custody

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The founder of the "Girls Gone Wild" video empire was taken into custody by federal marshals early Tuesday to face a contempt of court citation after initially defying a federal judge.

Joe Francis was booked into the Bay County Jail, said Ruth Sasser, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. "His attorneys continue to work toward a settlement," Ronn Torossian, a Francis spokesman, said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press.

Francis, 34, makes an estimated $29 million a year from videos of young women baring their breasts and in other sexually provocative situations.

He drew the contempt citation during negotiations in a civil lawsuit brought by seven women who were underage when they were filmed by his company on Panama City Beach during spring break in 2003.

6. Why is he a slug?
I don't watch crap like he makes - never saw his stuff. And I'm a woman.

But I don't have anything against someone filming willing people baring their breasts.

I understand some of the girls were under aged, and the guy should have gotten releases, but still, how sorry can you feel for some teen who holds up her shirt to a camera and then claims "mental" damage?

Don't get me wrong, the filmmaker is bad for not having releases, and for showing underage girls. But I dont' think it constitutes "slug". Is he evil?

Maybe I don't know enough about the case...

9. Were you ever exploited as an underage teen?
I naively nearly got myself raped by a sexual prediter when I was 17. Looking back, I realized that I hadn't developed my faculties of judgment about a potentially dangerous situation. I think this is one reason why underage women (and men, for that matter) are protected by law from sexual exploitation. Thinking back on the man who was out to rape me---well, I could understand why someone might use the term "slug" for someone like him.

15. Most of those girls had alcohol poured down their throats
by themselves, by peer pressure, by would be one night stands.

Most can claim diminished capacity.

The guy is a slug because he took advantage of young girls who didn't know that his tapes would affect their ability to get a decent job, would later have to answer uncomfortable questions from children, and were fully toasted at the time.

Plus, he was cheap. If he'd wanted to do soft porn, he should have hired actresses.

7. Whatever you think of him,
he has to follow the rule of law--and if he earned a contempt citation, he obviously showed disrespect to the officers of the court.

But here's a question--do you think his business and how he has run it contributed to his attitude that earned him a contempt citation?

He is smug and lascivious and I'm sick of trying to watch anything on cable after midnight and having to either endure those soft porn commercials or change the channel during every commercial break. He is getting a lot less than he deserves, IMO.

Back to back with some *Ultimate Fighter Cage Match* nonsense that shows guys with tiny craniums getting teeth knocked out and noses flattened. I'd like to see all of that go the way of cockfighting personally. IMO this attitude of hyper-maleness contributes to the casual racist and sexist crap we are dealing with in society currently (ie Imus...). Can't show two people making love but we can show extreme violence close-up and in color or drunk young women being exploited (with dots pasted over the 'brown bits' of course). Ugh. Of course if this particular slime mold doesn't make these films, some other sleaze will ooze to the bottom to fill the marketing gap.

"Girls Gone Wild" founder indicted in tax case

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The multimillionaire founder of the racy "Girls
Gone Wild" video series was indicted on tax evasion charges on Wednesday
-- a day after being arrested and jailed in Florida for contempt of court.

Joe Francis, 34, was indicted by a grand jury in Reno, Nevada, on charges
of deducting more than $20 million in false business expenses on the 2002
and 2003 corporate income tax returns of his California-based Mantra Films
Inc. and Nevada-based Sands Media Inc.

Francis, who has built a $100 million business from selling videos of young
women exposing their breasts, faces up to 10 years in prison and $500,000
in fines if convicted, the Department of Justice said.

He's very rich, for one thing, and we all know that the rich have a different set of laws, and his victims will be presented and perceived as having provoked the events.

It's fucking disgusting, that's what it is. :puke:

On edit: I really hope that I'm proven wrong about this.

36. Well, if the underaged girls
came forward and wanted to press charges, I don't see what the problem would be. Aren't underage teens and children generally considered to be incapable of entering into an agreement? That's the legal standard isn't it?

my point was that he can afford good attorneys, and that since the girls would be dragged through the mud for getting drunk and getting naked in the first place. He'll only get a slap on the wrist, I think.
