Democratic leaders agree to meet with Bush at White House

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi say they've agreed to meet with President Bush next week at the White House to discuss the Iraq war. But the two Democratic leaders insist the meeting will be a two-way discussion.

Bush and the leaders had been at a standoff over when, where and under what conditions they would meet. And both sides still refuse to budge on the issue of timelines for troop withdrawals from Iraq.

At stake is about 96 billion dollars needed by the Pentagon to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through the end of September. In a letter to congressional appropriators, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said budget problems would be compounded by the increased number of troops fighting in Iraq.
