Former Enron Chairman Ken Lay's widow says she is the rightful owner of his share of assets that the government wants to seize.

Linda Lay's assertion in a court filing this week was the latest step in the government's effort to wrest about $13 million of the deceased ex-chairman's assets that prosecutors allege are tied to fraud.

"That's just standard," Houston attorney Stanley Schneider said of the filing. "Anyone who has an interest in the property has to file a claim."

Other filings from Linda Lay's lawyers say the parties are trying to negotiate a settlement in the case. This week's filing asserts that his interest in the assets were transferred to her upon his death last July.

Prosecute screwed around, screwed around, screwed around until Kenny Boy died before sentencing. Now it seems all bets are off. I think they were saying they could get the money some other ways so the defrauded employees and investors could be partially compensated. But I think that's all smoke & mirrors to try to make it look like the prosecutors didn't screw this up. Now it looks like Kenny Boy's wife and children will be rolling in their millions for the rest of their days while former employees will be flipping burgers until they drop dead.

Court cases typically take way way too long.

His death was mighty convenient and came just in the nick of time.

I may have to adjust my tin foil hat a bit - but with friends like poppy Bush, who, let's not forget ran the CIA for years - is it really that far fetched to imagine a scenario where ole Kenny boy had some help either faking his death or even helping it along to secure his ill gotten treasure for his heirs.

I'm just saying ... lesser men than Kenny boy have faked their deaths for money -- Kenny just had the right connections to pull it off. Not to mention allowing the whole sordid swindle and the involvement of the Bush mafia to be forgotten.

The timing in this situation was too accurate to be credible. It would have been completely "do-able" for someone with connections and a lot of money to create the illusion of a funeral. After all, who was likely to challenge it personally, anyway?

I am also confident that someone (probably several someones) saw his body at Aspen Valley Hospital (where he was pronounced dead) as well as those who transported the body to the hospital and the funeral home etc.

Just because those folks are not specifically named (publicly) does not mean that they don't exist.
