2. Thanks for posting/don't be discouraged by lack of responses.
It just seems like there's nothing left to be thought or said about the daily horrendous death toll in Iraq, which hasn't been said over and over.

I read these fatality/body count posts every day and get the same sick feeling of horror and helplessness. And sometimes I'm confused as to whether the post is about the same deaths reported the day before or yet another 15 people killed.

I thought as I watched a video with a series of pictures of the people shot at Va Tech, that the media should be doing this for the deaths in Iraq/Afghanistan. Of course, those countries are in such chaos that photos from high school yearbooks, family members or the like, and comments from grieving friends, are not available, and there are no functioning press outlets to gather and disseminate such information. "He was a gentle man who loved to take his grandchildren out for ice cream, or to the zoo." "She is mourned by her loving husband, 3 children and 4 grandchildren."

Reuters witness says dozens dead in new Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD, April 18 (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded in Baghdad's central Sadriya neighbourhood on Wednesday and a Reuters photographer at the scene said there were dozens of bodies, including many women and children.

Earlier, a car bomb in Baghdad's Shi'ite stronghold of Sadr City killed 30 people. At least five car bombs exploded in Baghad on Wednesday, hours after Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said his forces will take over security from U.S.-led forces by end-2007.

7. 4 bombs rock Baghdad, killing at least 61
Wednesday, April 18
BAGHDAD (AP) - Four separate explosions rocked Baghdad on Wednesday — including a suicide attack in the Shiite militia stronghold of Sadr City — killing at least 61 people as violence climbed toward levels seen before a U.S.-led surge to pacify the capital.
Meanwhile, U.S. troops killed five suspects and captured 30 others in a raid in Iraq's western Anbar province, a day after police uncovered 17 decomposing corpses beneath two school yards in the provincial capital.

The U.S. military also announced a discovery made nearly a week earlier — 3,000 gallons of nitric acid hidden in a warehouse in downtown Baghdad. U.S. forces found the acid — a key component in fertilizer but also explosives — during a routine search operation last Thursday, the military said.

Iraqi troops took charge of security Wednesday in the southern province of Maysan, a region that borders Iran and the fourth province to come under full Iraqi security control since the 2003 U.S. invasion.

4 bombs kill 127 people in Baghdad By SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD - Four large bombs exploded across Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least 127 people and wounding scores as violence climbed toward levels seen before the U.S.-Iraqi campaign to pacify the capital began two months ago.

In the deadliest of the attacks, a parked car bomb detonated in a crowd of workers at the Sadriyah market in a mostly Shiite area of central Baghdad, killing at least 82 people and wounding 94, said Raad Muhsin, an official at Al-Kindi Hospital where the victims were taken.

A police official confirmed the toll, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

Several cars were set afire at the market, where a car bombing in February killed 137 people.

About an hour earlier, a suicide car bomber crashed into an Iraqi police checkpoint at an entrance to Sadr City, the capital's biggest Shiite Muslim neighborhood and a stronghold for the militia led by radical anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

By Dean Yates and Paul Tait

BAGHDAD, April 18 (Reuters) - Car bombs killed nearly 170 people in Baghdad on Wednesday in the deadliest attacks in the city since U.S. and Iraqi forces launched a security crackdown aimed at halting the country's slide into civil war.

One car bomb alone in the mainly Shi'ite Sadriya neighbourhood killed 118 people and wounded 139, police said.

The apparently coordinated attacks -- there were five within a short space of time -- occurred hours after Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Iraq would take security control of the whole country from foreign forces by the end of the year.

More than 200 people were wounded in total.
