Iraq plans to control whole nation by end 2007: Maliki
Wed Apr 18, 2007 7:27am ET

AMARA, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraq plans to take security control of the whole country from foreign forces by the end of the year, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on Wednesday after British forces handed over control of a southern province.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by National Security Adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie at a ceremony marking the handover of Maysan province from British forces to Iraqi control, Maliki said three provinces in the autonomous Kurdistan region would follow next.

These would be followed by Kerbala and Wasit provinces, he said.

"Then it will be province by province until we achieve (this transfer) before the end of the year," Maliki said.

In a reminder of Iraq's security woes, a car bomb killed 10 people and wounded up to 15 in central Baghdad, police said. They said the attack took place in the Karrada district, a mostly Shi'ite neighborhood.

3. I'm planning on winning the lotto by the end of 2007.
And I don't even buy tickets. I think I have a better chance of succeeding than he does.

8. Maybe someone will give you a ticket on your birthday
Which would greatly increase your chances; I have no idea what might increase Mr. Maliki's chances of delivering on his plan.

4. So, is this the "standing up" portion meaning the US can start "standing down"?
I'm sure Bushco will find some excuse to keep our targets over there longer and in great numbers.

BAGHDAD, April 18 (Reuters) - Car bombs killed nearly 170 people in Baghdad on Wednesday in the deadliest attacks in the city since U.S. and Iraqi forces launched a security crackdown aimed at halting the country's slide into civil war.

One car bomb alone in the mainly Shi'ite Sadriya neighbourhood killed 118 people and wounded 139, police said.

The apparently coordinated attacks -- there were five within a short space of time -- occurred hours after Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Iraq would take security control of the whole country from foreign forces by the end of the year.

More than 200 people were wounded in total.

7. LSD in the Water Supply ...
... That is the only way 'controlling' the entirety of Iraq will ever happen.

10. They already control 90% of it!
So now all they have to do is extend their control to the part where all the people live.

11. Really? How do they plan to oust American forces?
Will they really take over the 14 "permanent" American military bases? Will they control their own oil?
