Police Prepared To Arrest 3,000 (protesters) At '08 RNC
Source: AP

(AP) St. Paul The Ramsey County sheriff has prepared a $4.4 million budget for security during the 2008 Republican National Convention, with a plan to handle the arrests of as many as 3,000 protesters.

Sheriff Bob Fletcher's proposal includes money for a possible open-air, fenced detention facility next to the county workhouse, riot equipment and Tasers, and $1.7 million for officers' overtime.

Boston and New York City, which hosted the national political conventions in 2004, prepared for similar numbers of arrests but wound up arresting fewer. Fletcher said things could be different in 2008.

"The tenor of the country's feelings about the war in Iraq is different than it was four years ago," Fletcher said.

8. The RNC does not have a viable
candidate. Let them think they are "cool"....that everyone just loves them.....The voters will have the last word in this battle. Let's use our resources and money for our winner, the Democratic Nominee.

3. Everybody in St. Paul/Minneapolis Should Just TAke Off for a Week
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 09:59 AM by Demeter
The cops, the restaurant and hotel workers, the taxis and bus drivers, wter, sewer, sanitation, plumbers, electricians, barbers, docotrs, all should flee the city as if plague-infested rats had arrived. Let the GOP bring in their God Squads to provide the loving care they want.

The Amish would call it "shunning"

7. As a resident of St Paul
and one close to the convention center I am dreading this day to day life will a mess getting to and from work will be a trial but the upside is this (for me) I was downtown last week and looking around I realized that downtown St Paul is less then exciting, about the only thing here is the Science Museum, I doubt the pukes will be lining up for that, there are few restaurants or anything else one department store that was going top close its doors, a drug store, and precious little else maybe 6 fast food places, in other words a deserted ghost town for the most part, hopefully Timmy and Normie will be wearing egg facials before this is done and to make it even better the cities are solidly Democratic most of the fundies and pukes live outstate.

12. Imagine that! Does the First Amendment mean nothing anymore?
Or is pre-emptive arrest now the standard for the nation?

And you damn betcha, Sheriff Fletcher, that the country's feelings are a lot different than they were four years ago.

By 2008, they may need to just cancel the GOP Convention. Lack of interest.

16. Well let's send 6,000. The fuckers aren't prepared for that. I think I
may even go protest. I'm soo sick of the RNC. And theytalk about the Dems running a shadow government. Republicans have been doing the governments work on RNC laptops.
