Sgt. Tim Robinson will get the extra time he requested to spend with his dying mother in a Decatur hospital instead of returning to Iraq. In fact, he may get even more.

After initially being denied an extra week of leave, Robinson told The Decatur Daily on Thursday he now expects that he won't be returning to Iraq but will be at a U.S. base for his final five months in the Army.

Robinson, 39, has five months left before his retirement.

U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, whose office had worked with the Army on Robinson's behalf, said the soldier's situation had "touched all of us."

2. I'm so glad to hear this
I just wish this whole unholy war of choice would end, so that all countries involved can begin to heal from the trauma the Bush administration has caused. I could not live with myself, if I had brought about such tragedy, and pain. Bush can't have a conscience, or a soul, to have caused all of this suffering and destruction.

4. Rep. Cramer is an asset to the Huntsville area
He's done alot to bring in jobs to the city. He's a really good representative, as shown by his ability to consistently be re-elected in a heavily repub area.

6. So glad he got to come home.
There is a soldier from eastern Iowa who's mother was dying. The family tried everything to get him an emergency leave. His commander would hear none of it. It wasn't his policy and there were no exceptions.

He got a leave 2 weeks later to attend her funeral. So sad.

8. How many other soldiers have gone through similar situations
and yet had leave denied them?

This poor guy got a break because some sympathetic reporter saw an injustice being committed by the military.

I'm really glad that this guy got a chance to be with his mom.

However, how moms, fathers, wives, brothers, sisters, daughters and sons, will never have the chance to see their family member ever again?

end the war now.
